I now own my father's "unbreakable piece of metal". It is a 1991 1HD-T 5 speed manual with over 560k km (350k miles).
He got it in 2005 with around 250k km.
The "maintenance" done was (2005):
- New OEM turbo
- Rebuilt diesel pump & injectors. (after this it had less power and its mileage improved significantly, around 9L/100km going ~90kmh)
Since 2005 nothing important has been done to the car since it has been running ok and mostly on highway, other than some bearings replacement.
I am planning to do the following preventative maintenance:
1.- Replace the big end bearings, as they have been the same for, at least, over 250k km
2.- Rebuild the whole front axle
I would like to know what you think or if you have any recommendations regarding these repairs
Thanks from Spain!
