A) this thread is worthless without pics 
B) are you any good at wheeling? if not, you are going to bash the bed up anyways if this is a real rock crawler. so lose it.
OR, build some nice bedside armor to keep it... just got to be careful
C) lose the bed, build a minimal dove tail style tube frame on the back, cut the bed up and just use the skins on the sides...
guess it comes down to what type of driver you are, the terrain you expect to conquer, and how stockish you want the truck to appear?
Is it a dual purpose rig? IE go to lowes and pickup lumber AND wheel it? kind of hard to get s*** in a pickup with no bed...just sayin
