I have a 1990 Forerunner with 165K miles. Driving along this week and had a water/coolant drip coming from the front bottom right of the engine block. I am guessing a hose crack but I know nothing about cars and want to make sure when I take it in I am giving them the right information. Can I get some verification on why it would leak water from the bottom right of the engine?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Very important: 4 or 6cyl?

sounds like a WP going.

They have a weep hole and it's used as an indicator water has passed through a seal.

When was your last timing belt service?

and by any chance do you follow the factory recommendations on replacing regular maintenance parts or "PM" < Preventative Maintenance

Oh, and WELCOME!!!! YEEEEoooowWWWWW!!!

:flipoff2: < OFFICIAL, Newb welcome :D

And since you're a newb, Im gonna cut you some slack in trying to feel you out on weather or not you're as gonzo over your ride, as we are about ours.

On the V6, it is mandatory to replace the WP, tensioner and TB(Timing Belt) all at the same time. This motor is NO picnic to work on, and you should do all you can when in that area of that motor.

We'd H8 to hear you've had to replace all those things at different times. Ouch, cause I H8 working on those motors....But the tech$ don't :D

Some other things I feel are pertinent to your situation.

There is a recall on the steering relay rod. Check it out in the sticky of this forum.
There is, or might have been(don't know if it's ended by now) a head gasket recall on the V6.

And, if you are a new owner of the vehicle, I have had success in the past of taking the Vin to my local stealer and getting them to run it and give me a history of it.

:D....you newb you...;)

take hilux's advice.

I dont think any of us can walk into the NASA R&D division and tell them the molecular structure of their polymer foundation inside the exterior cavity for the new gamma probe has a significant voltage isolation properties. when in fact, they know damn well it conducts energy like Cu.

What I am saying is you cant provide the mechanic with any info he does not already know. The only thing he needs to know is your name and credit card# and that its leaking coolant. Otherwise talking like you know something may make you look like a sap, and he could take advantage of you.

Any good mechanic is going to inspect the whole vehicle and give you an estimate to repair what he recommends.

welcome aboard. :flipoff2:

oh, and its 4Runner. NOT Forerunner. A Forerunner is one of those Jewish Rabbis who do the barmitzfas

Thanks to all for the advice.

This is a new ride for me as I've never had a Toyota before. I love it strictly due to the fact that I've never had a vehicle this nice. And it's my only car right now. So I love it even more.

I have a schedule with my local Toyota guru this weekend so hopefully some wise head and hands will get my 4runner purring again.

Cheers

Glad you got into a Toyota. The only major problem is with Toyotas is once you own one you wont beable to drive anything else. :D

And not to be a nagging nancy, but I gave Johnathan Furguson a hard time about this too, and you are no exception. You drive a SUV or at best a truck. I call em all trucks. Its not a car. Cars have trunks and weenie tires. You got the 4Runner part right, now heed the second step :flipoff2:

It could also be one of the many Forerunner Installations populating the numerous HALO's we have populating the Universe! end/nerdtalk

Welcome, Ive never had the priveldge to talk Halo on these boards, Thanks!:flipoff2:

I hope your Toyota Guru doesnt charge to much... Lately Ive noticed the local stealerships robbing pocket books!
