I am about to sell my car and looking to buy this really nice Land Cruiser off of Craiglist. http://anchorage.craigslist.org/cto/3865400330.html I don't know anything about this car besides that it looks pretty nice. Is there a specific name for the engine? Is it reliable? Strong? Any experts out there who can give me their opinion on this post and some experience they have had with these Land Cruisers would help out so much.

Hi, Great truck, at least we think so. Better if you can do the maint. Yourself. I always figure Ill spend some money on each one I buy....1000.....2000. Mike

185,000 on the clock is not a lot of miles for these trucks. Mine had 225,000, when I was able to score her more than that guy is asking for his. With proper maintenance these trucks will run 400,000 plus miles. Rust is the major killer of these vehicles. The engine is a 3fe and their extremely reliable. Weak point tends to be the transmission. See if there's a local LC club in Anchorage and ask if someone would be willing to go with you and have a look at the truck. X2 on Mike's comment about doing the maintenance yourself, it's fun and you save big $$$. Get a FSM and treat this forum as the "go to" for all things crusier related. Thank you so much for your reply. I've always been a fan of Toyota. Had a 1991 Toyota 4Runner with a 3vze that I wanted to replace with a 22re. Gutted out the inside hoping for a "weigh reduction" but ended up just causing me to slide everywhere once winter came. Haha. Dad owns a FJ Cruiser. He is fixing it up here and there for a more cross country look. There are a couple of FJ40s but the FJ62 gets my attention. I just like it. Could almost look like a Mercedes G series. I plan on doing a complete detail and tune up once I get my hands on it. And one more thing. I'm a huge noob when it comes to Toyota communities or whatever but what is a FCM?

Looks to be a good rig, milage seem honest. If you put in some PM, you should get another 100k without issue.

Change out the trans fluid to synthetic, and add a cooler. Water pump and hoses, would also be wise.

And I had a 91 22re 5 speed 4runner 2 door. Sweet ride!

I found another post from the same guy but with out the picture but he had information on it. He replaced the water pump, new brakes, new stereo, and the engine has had synthetic all it's life. Hoping the guy selling it is the original owner. Said he's gotta get rid of it because he doesn't need three cars.

have a look at play on the drive-shafts - U-joints. Also steering play. Take it for a proper road test, and check it will engage and disengage four wheel drive. Drive at speed in 5th gear then quickly take your foot off the throttle - see if it jumps out of 5th
