Brief history. Found this 2WD truck, needed an engine (timing chain chewed through timing cover), bought it for $300, rebuilt an engine from an 87 I had many years ago. When I rebuilt the engine, the cylinder head had pitting in it, but the machine shop repaired it. Put about 80,000 miles on rebuilt engine, head repair finally gave up. Bought reman head, then noticed pitting on deck of block due to coolant leak. Pulled engine out, had deck resurfaced. I put in new rod + main bearings. Dropped engine back in, it fires up, but stalls immediately. I have to keep tapping the gas pedal to keep it running. Revs up fine, no vibration, just stalls as soon as I let off gas. I NEVER had any issues like this in the 80k miles I put on it after the first rebuild. As far as I can tell, I have all the vacuum hoses hooked up properly. All electrical connectors (the very few) are tight. I put the distributor in before I put the valve cover on so I know my timing is on. The truck only sat a couple weeks so I know fuel is ok. I have never messed with the carb, never needed to. This is irritating because these trucks are so simple but for some reason this has me stumped.
