Hello Toyota friends!

I am just writing to find out if anybody has a similar problem with their 85 4runner.

It seems that after winter passes, and it is safe to roll down the rear gate window, it never works.

I then proceed to take apart the rear gate covers to have a look. I unplug and plug a couple things (the door-lock connections).

I also take off the center console to inspect the switch for the window.

Low and behold the window seems to work again. I hear the click in the driver's side relay, and the window goes down.

The problem: I don't know what I've done to fix it. I assume maybe a connection point has lost conductivity. Being a noob, and not great at electrical diagnostics I can only guess.

Does anybody else go through this? Can anybody point me in a direction to properly diagnose? Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Keith:cheers::steer::clap:

rear window quick fix

THis should be real easy,
1. You need to find your lil grey box (relay box) this is behind the rear seat in the quarter panel (drivers side) in a 1st gen 4runner

Function Wire Pin #

Window Motor - 2 L/B 1
Window Limit Switch R/W 2
Window Motor - 1 L/Y 3
Blank pin n/c n/c
Dash/Window Down G/Y 4
Dash/Window Up R/Y 5
Battery/+12VDC L 6
To - Washer Switch L 7
Engine/+12VDC R 8
To - Wiper Relay L/R 9
Ground W/B 10
Back/Window Down L/W 11 **** this one blue/white
Back/Window Up L/B 12 **** this one blue/black
Wiper Retracted G/Y 13
1st Gen. Rear Window Relay

This is the wiring diagram....

2. All you do is attach a wire long enough to reach a ground 12in or so...

4. Label the wires UP and DOWN and when you ground them (one at a time)
the window moves and... you are done......

This is a real good way to test everything in your system.

Hope this is helpful....chisx / I welcome further comments....
