aamiggia : I don't know if you're still looking for a runner, but I know a guy on another board that is selling his, it's an '85 runner with 36" tsl and locked, front and rear, I think it's welded, the truck looks quite clean, as clean as an '85 can get at least. anyway here's the thread he posted : http://quebec4x4.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7302
It's in french, should you need any help to translate, just tell me.
Good luck
Matt

If you go with a 22re 4cyl then check out www.got propane.com.
Really cool web site.
Also try for a 1st gen 4-runner (84-89) because the 2nd
gen (90-95) are coil sprung in the rear and you will have
to swap them out for leaf springs to get any real flex ;)
Also I think the 22re 4cly is better than the 3.0 V6.
3.0 V6 has head gasket problems gets crappy gas mileage
and has poor power. (I own a 3.0 V6 runner)
Any ways if you can weld then don't worry about the soild
axle swap.
If you can't weld then go for the 85.
Any ways good luck on either.

Hello all,

I'm interested in building a 4Runner trail rig. My goal is to have 36" tires, SPOA, and locking diff's (would like to be selectable).

My question is, is it better to start with a 1985 Solid axle;
- Hard to find, usualy people know it's value = $$$

Your opinions would be greatly welcomed. and any other tech differences.

aamiggia,

You could always just make the trip down from Canada to Arizona and buy my 1985 4runner . Rust free :)
