Why is the carb cover on this 84 Fj45 RHD come with old style canister like in the old fj45? I thought the newer models had a carb cover sitting on top of the valve cover, round and flat. Did the RHD models came with a different carb cover because of a different market? Australia, New Zealand?
Thanks for your imput on this matter. I hope the picture is attached.

Thats how my 82 was. canister is held by first two head bolts, right? Standard Aussie set up as far as i know. One i pulled off a 78 recently was the same also.
Heaps more room on the left for the air cleaner on a right hand drive model ?

The Left Hand Drive 2Fs sold into the World Market from 1979-1984 also came with the round canisters mounted on the Left side. There was some variation in the mounts and configurations, some with oil baths, some with small, under-canister dust traps. Those with power steering had the pumps mounted on the upper right side, with the alternator on the left. Smog pumps and the associated plumbing were not used on the basic and simpler World Market engines.

The later year USA-bound 2Fs had a lot going on in their engine compartments and space was at a premium. Sticking the air unit up on top of the engine gave room for the other USA-required smog plumbing, carb fans, and miles of spaghetti hoses.

Question answered.

Thanks for the detailed info. Makes sense. I just wanted to make sure this truck being an 84 did not have an older engine swap. You never know.

They used those air filter boxes until 07 in the 70 series, definately the best design.
