In my 76 FJ40 rebuild, the cable on my choke is unwinding and coming apart. Any tricks to replacing the cable and guide tube without buying an entirely now assembly?

You might be able to Kludge a section of outer housing in place with some heat shrink. More than likely the inner wire cable has to be replaced as a unit - fixing it in the knob shaft, will be a challenge to remove the old one first.
