would you by any chance know land cruiser junky?

Yeah, me and Kellymoe have been wheeling together since the 80's.

Right now I'm wishing the paint on my LV looked as good as yours. Your rig really turned out nice. Love the color choice. When I get mine painted, our LV's are almost gonna look like twins aside from my green being a little more olive drab.

I'm headed out to the desert tomorrow morning for 4 days, but we'll have to hook up when I get back so I can check out your rig.

very nice work guys!!!!!!!

i'm soo stoked that the rig went to a good home and turned out this well. the first pic was taken the day i sold the LV to gifu. it was stored in that barn for roughly a year. i had it as a "parts rig" for orange and luckily could'nt get myself to take a single part off it. then one day gifu walked up and introduced himself.........

really stoked for you poe. are you gonna bring it to SNT? please say yes.

hey land cruiser junky can i go and hit the dirt sometime with you guys.

Yeah, we probably won't go out again 'til March, but I'll give you a heads up before then. Maybe my LV will be finished and we can go scratch the crap out of our new paint together.

right up the street from you!!!

SNT:

:frown: i can't go as i did not know about this event . too short notice. looks like this happens every year, rite . so if all is well then remind me and i will be there next year.the rig is stilll at the shop . w are trying to trace the reason why the battery is not holding its charge . the alternator reads strong, new battery.... so thats where i am at too.

Tires size

It's running stock springs with 33X9.50's on Land Crusier disc brake rims. We took it from SOA to SUA. Also, it is sitting on FJ62 axles and has a rear ARB locker.

I have been told by another mudder (Land Cruiser Junky) who has an LV that he recommends 10.5 vs 9.5 due to the weight of the truck and that the tires would roll badly on a curve. He said the 10.5's made a big difference and that the did fit under the fenders. Any comments or experiences please let us know. Also, what is a "disc brake rim", just what it sounds like? and does it matter if the wheels are from a drum axle vs. disc? are they still 15". One other question, what shocks did you go with?

Drum brake rims won't fit with disc brakes unless you grind down the rivots a little. Not a bid deal really.
Yes, 33X10.50's are a better tire in my opinion. All of the 33X9.50's that I have seen wear funny. Probably due to the 'roll effect' on the sidewalls
But, I have been told that BFG no longer makes the 33X10.50 in the AT. You can still get them in the MT but not the AT. Not sure if that is true or not.
I personally would go with a 16" rim as they take a heavier duty tire and these tires will most likely last a little longer than a 15" tire. Although, a 16" tire is more expensive than a 15".

I believe Poe has Bilstein 5125's. Great shocks.
Also forgot to mention that starting in 1973, all Land Cruisers came with the welded rims instead of the rivoted. So, theoritically if it is a welded rim, it would fit with disc brakes.

According to the BFG web site, the 33x10.5x15 are still made? What are the width of the 15" steel rims? If I wanted 16" rims, do you have to go with a aftermarket rim mfg. or were they available from Toyota? The MT's look good, but I am afraid they would end up being very noisy in a short amount of time?

Stock, hub-cap style, wheels are 15" by 5.5" wide.

stock wheels

that is exactly what I am confused about bc when you go the the BFG site it says the recommended rim width is much wider than the factory 5.5" wheel, yet I see many people running these wider tires. so is it safe? if a 10.5 has less sidewall roll over as compared to a 9.5 that seems a little odd given the huge mass of tire on the very skinny stock rim? but it must work bc you see it done so often.

I had BFG 33s on stock springs and they didn't rub off road. TLC sticks the BFG 33X10.5 15 on all of the Cruisers they turn out on stock 15" X 5.5 rims. I've only had 33X9.5 15s so I can't tell you how the 10.5 rides. I know most guys are looking for at least a 33" tire, but after I lost the BFGs, I went to a 16" Chevy steel wheel and put on Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 245 75R 16. It's the same size as a 31X10.5. Great ride on and off road.

NOW, BACK TO burbankianfj45wagon's LV.

Poe, I'm back from the desert. PM me your phone # and I'll try to get together with you this week. Got any pics of the interior?

landcruiser junky
my rig is still in the local shop . 3 major factors battery not holding charge new battery alternator all good. 350 chevy is almost dead and exhausted and i ordered a rebuild. also some quirks on the stereo that GIFU wired up we are thinking there maybe something going on thats causing the battery drain. after restore the front glass windsheild was leaking real bad. as i was driving back from colorado rain was just pouring in the rig too, so that is why as i said almost done . i will PM you my number and also could you pm me ur number too if you do not mind, thanks i am really hoping i will get the rig back in 2 weeks from today. looking forward into getting together and also seeing your rig.

I was in Burbank today and stopped by to check out your rig. It was up on the stand and they were working on it so I only really got to see the underside. Looks like Jeremiah did a nice job on it.

Got to talk to Eric for a while. The guys at Tyremans seem to really know what they're doing. A fresh 350 and the bugs worked out of your charging system and that's gonna be one sweet wagon.

Give me a call when you get her on the street. Looks like mine is gonna be down for a while 'til I get the new wiring finished.

Can someone confirm the part numbers for the Bilstein socks for the FJ45LV? Also, what is do you use for the steering dampener? Does Bilstein have one? Any vendor recommendations?
