The 2013+ Tundra is a great platform. Love my 2015 1794, but I am disappointed with the lack of storage for tools/tow straps/first aid kits/etc. The commercial rear seat storage kits don't work with this truck because of the extra foam sound deadening under the rear seat. So I decided to build my own.

Step 1 - remove rear seat and mark carpet for cut

This is what it looks like under the carpet and foam. I am making three storage compartments so I don;t have to compromise the rear set mount channels shown here.

Here I am measuring a 2"x2"box tube to be the front lip of the storage compartments. (you can buy this tube prefinished from Lowe's - it's part of a steel fence kit). I'm using shorter pieces of it to go underneath the beam between the seat channels as a front wall for the compartment, but you could also just leave the cut face of the foam.

Here is the completed frame. I welded extensions on each end to close the exposed sides. I drilled and tapped the seat channels so I could bolt this frame on. Fair warning, the channels are high strength steel, and not easy to drill or tap. Make sure you have a new, sharp bit. The cut out pieces of carpet are in the bottom, but I didn't like the semi-finished look so:

I covered the whole thing with unbacked automotive carpet before bolting the seat back in place. This makes a very finished compartment that looks almost factory.

With the seat down, there is little indication that anything is changed from factory. I wondered if the loss of foam would increase road noise, but honestly I can't tell the difference.

That turned out really well. I like the depth it added when the carpet and padding was cut and removed. I have all sorts of gear smashed under the seat of my 14 SR5. That storage space should come like that from the factory. Well done😎

Very nice. I love the use of space and a way to organize.

Super cool!

-I love my CM cabin, but I know the RR seat of the super-cab (IDK the right term, the intermediate of the STD cab) - I know their seats fold to access the under-seat area.

Cool to see this, my ‘12 has that same thick padding - I always “stinkeye” it when I am vacuuming/throwing rope & straps behind the seat.
