I have read about it but haven't had that issue myself.
Pics tell the story. Gotta take it out, drill/gouge the plug welds and reweld, then I'd also seam weld the tubes to the center section. Have an alignment bar with pucs in the spindles+carrier bearings to make sure it doesn't warp.
