My new to me 2004 has the black screen issue on the backup camera. I looked at threads of how to fix it but it seemed like too much work to track down the source of the issue for such a small thing. The only thing I would ever use it for is tight parallel parking since I live in a city, which admittedly is hard to do and hard to judge the distance without a camera.
A recent trip to South America inspired me because I saw many 4x4s with rear mounted mirrors, which seemed like a great idea! I ordered one off AliExpress and just installed it and honestly it’s easier now to tell how far my bumper is from another car than it is with a backup camera. A simple solution that will now save me several minutes each day
