12h-t EXHAUST BRAKE?

Does anyone know if exhaust brakes can be used with Toyota diesels? Any special mods required?

My 1HZ has one.... it's small, works not overly well due to the displacement of the engine being relatively small. I have no idea how it actually works but there's a switch to turn it on and off under the left hand side of the dash.

Sorry I can't be any more help... except to confirm they exist.

Look at a banks one. Maybe they make one small enough to use with your engine.

Toyota makes them for the B series and the 1H engines for the Dyna and Coasters. Never bothered to look if they made them for the 12H-T.

I have one on my Mog but with 20 gears to shift through not much use.

What I know about exhaust brakes is that they are just a electrically or pneumatically operated butterfly valve in the exhaust. I would think that as long as I can find one that I can adapt, the size of the valve itself wouldn't matter too much.

Thoughts on this?

I would first check and see if it will work on your engine. I know some of the older Cummins diesels had to have stronger exhaust valve springs put in first. Who sells these for toyota diesels?
