105 series fuel door will not release

Hey guys, first post here

I have a 2001 HZJ105, when i went to open the fuel door to refuel the latch mechanism will not release, google says it is a stretched or broken cable which is fine, i can replace that. (replaced door spring a couple years ago so not that)

But until then i still need to get the door open to refuel,
I tried pulling on the cable itself with pliers where it attaches to the release lever but it wont move any further
I can only find info about 80 series which has an emergency release of some sort (idk dads 80 is chopped into a ute)

Attached is a pic of the release mechanism from inside the car, I played with it a bit but id rather ask the experts before i break it lol

the little metal cable is inside that housing, if all else fails - cut it in half and then you'll be able to pull on the metal wire inside.

It looks like you just rotate the white sleeve counter-clockwise over the black nub (there might be another nub on the opposite side) and it might back out.

Thx for the help, had to pick up another car from the mechanic so got him to have a look, his magic touch opened it straight away haha, just had to push on it while pulling the release, sprayed some crc into the mechanism and its working fine now. Came pretty close to running out of fuel tho, $250 for full tanks which is amazing /s
