I would lease the GL350. No way would I want it out of warranty.

I think big changes are coming to all SUVs. Range Rover just went unibody aluminum and lost a ton of weight. They also have a diesel coming to the states. Land cruiser can't survive getting 12mpg. My attraction to the GL is the awesome ride (comfort) and the Diesel engine which gets 25 mpg on the highway. I have no idea what the diesel land cruiser gets. Trouble is diesel is $4.50. + here in NY. For s***s and giggles we drove a LX570 yesterday. Same truck as the LC but the trade in offer on our 2011 was only 42K. I'm not spending another 40k for HIDs and vented seats. Funny thing is the GM starts telling me how much better the LX is over the LC. It uses higher quality parts, smoother engine. Etc.

Point is ill probably keep my 200 and 100 another 5 years be wise there is nothing out there that holds their value or is more reliable than a Land Cruiser. Long live the King.

I would rather have your 200 LC then the LX570. LC is better looking JMHO. Like you I like the idea of a diesel and higher mpg, but like you found out the high price of diesel cancels out any MPG savings. :(

The current v8 diesel gets 27 city/33 highway, with combined 30mpg.

Where I am in Texas, 87 octane gas is $3.25/gallon and diesel is $3.60

I get 12/15 mpg, with an average of 13mpg.

For me, that turns into 25 cents a mile for gas (1/13mpg/$3.25).
If I had the overseas diesel, it would be closer to 12 cents per mile (1/30mpg/$3.60). That is half the price.

Yes diesel prices vary a lot so where you are driving makes a huge difference. That said if you are paying a $5k premium for the Diesel engine option how many years of driving do you have before you break even and start saving money? Just have to look at all the factors and make an informed decision. Back in the day I had a Dodge 3500 4x4 Cummins Turbo Diesel 6 speed manual, I loved that beast!!! Wife refused to ride in it. Ended up getting rid of that wife :)

Overseas there is no gasoline option so the $5k upgrade price is up for debate...that is what the American companies charge to go diesel.
As for how long it takes to recoup costs...if the option did cost $5k, then it would only take 38k mikes to pay for itself. And I'd save over $20,000 more by the time it hit 200,000 miles.

It really is a no brainer. Wish we could get those here from the factory.

If you did a 36 month 30k mile lease you would never recoup. Which is what most MB customers do. I agree if you keep it for 200k you would be broke repairing that POS Mercedes. JMHO

In my own case the argument for diesel has almost nothing to do with price or fuel cost. It has to do with the characteristics of the motor and my reaction to the motor when I start it. I like it. It makes me feel better. I trust them. Not that my Toyota gas motors have been problems. They haven't been.

Didn't anyone else catch that. Laughing out loud here and my wife looks at me and says what's so funny. My wife calls my car obnoxious.

Bought her a Lexus LX 470. She didn't realize it was a Land Cruiser with a boob job and Botox until a year later....

That's funny! My wife said she'd gladly drive a 100 or 200, but she refuses to even talk about the LX. Too ugly, in her opinion.

I don't think she likes the front end on the LX470, but she's probably a little biased after listening to me fawn over every 80 and 100 series TLC I see.

Just a quick correction, the 4.5TTD in the 200 does not return 30mpg. Official figure (which is hard to match) says 29mpg, but that is for an Imperial gallon. In US terms it returns about 25mpg (claimed).

Now, this is still a lot better than 15 and I'd be first in line if they brought that engine over here as I grew up driving diesels.

SW Utah- other than savings, the increased range of diesels is a boon. Also, they are nicer for going into the wild with as jerry cans of diesel are far safer than those filled with gasoline.

Damn :) for normal highway driving I've never understood that longer driving range benefit?? After about 100 miles I'm looking for a gas station so I can pee and walk around some, so I buy so gas while I'm using their services. But I'm an old fart so the rules are different.

One big difference, the 100 series is 10 times better looking then the 200 series. :). I wish this was not true. The 2013 LX looks better then all the previous 200 LC and LX's. I am hoping that when I am ready for the 200 series in like 4 years that they will look better. I could live with a used 2013 LX in 4 years if that ends up being as good as the get. Sorry 200 series owners I know it's like telling you your kid is ugly, but when it's true it's true.
200 looks good to me :D

Anymore opinions on 100 vs 200 series. More so curious on 80% on road 20% backroads, 35s and all the gear to live out of for days

I have both since each was new. The 100 was great for its time and still appropriate if that is what you can afford. Otherwise, I would go with a 200. Increased power, safety systems, simpler maintenance (manually repacking the wheel bearings is a real mess, timing belt changes, etc) drive modes, and size makes the 200 perfect in my mind.

That being said, if a 100 was what I could afford i would have zero hesitance is driving that.
