Hey Guys,

I posted on the 100 forum, but wanted to get y'all's expertise as well.

I determined my heater core is bad...heater has been blowing smoke and stink and now has a small leak, under glove box. It's coolant.

I need to replace and was wondering if this is something I can do. ANy experience with a similar project out there? I know there are not many 100s on here, but there is nothing you guys don't know.

Thanks.

Matt

I have no idea what differences there are between 100s and 60s but I did my HC a few years ago and it was a major PTA. It's doable but involves wrenching in alot of uncomfortable positions. I had to take the whole dash apart, lower the steering column in order to get all the duct work out. Once I was in there the HC came out fairly easily. I would read the manual carefully to see whats involved. I'm imagine your truck has alot more electronic stuff under there to be aware of.

bad heater cores really suck.

Matt, I'd be glad to help but I wouldn't be bringing any special knowledge to the job plus I'd be a little bit intimidated. Any chance it's a recall or warranty type thing?

Thanks for the responses. Graves and Stoddard said its pretty invovled with taking apart the dash etc just to get to it...labor is what is so expensive for the job.

Suggested a temporary fix by rerouting hose from heater core, until I can get it there and/or decide what to do.

Am considering tackling this myself and would welcome help if no special tools are required.

Is this the spot for rerouting, anybody have any suggestions on the best way to do this?
