‘09 LC at a dealer, he sent me these pictures since it was so recently acquired there were none along with the site.
Carfax looks clean, no major incidents reported, 212,000 miles with 3 owners. Haven’t seen the underside at all or engine block, heading in for a test drive tomorrow.

Pictures below, just looking for gut check from some experts since I’ve been searching for an LC that will mostly be a daily driver but want to have moderate capability for back country adventures!

get the vin and run it thru the toyota owner site to see the service history.

I don't see any questions in your post, and I don't see the most relevant piece of information - the price.

Asking price is $19,900.

Does this seem like a fair price for the miles and age?
Are there key maintenance items that I should watch for in the service history?
Are there maintenance tasks that are preferred at this time in its life (212,000 miles) that are typically neglected or not part of Toyota’s recommended Maint items?

If it doesn't have any issues, I'd not hesitate at that price. My 2008 has 215k miles and is great. There's a few thing to check (Radiator, Cam Tower Leak, Waterpump, Starter). Condition looks pretty good from the pics. I'd look over the undercarriage given your location and make sure it's not a rust bucket underneath.

You’re ahead of the game as I see the pleather hasn’t split on the side of the drivers seat. Probably was fixed considering the miles. I have an 08 with 210k and similarly no issues. Except for radiator replacement. That would be the big thing to check.

Ooh also check the recirculating flap that changes air from fresh to recirc. Access the cabin air filter through the glove box. Look in there and switch between fresh and recirc. Make sure it operates smoothly. Dealers or PO’s have been known to jam that door out of the way to change the filter. Can mess it up.

Thanks @auggafj80 I’ll check for both, just looking through the Toyota owners service records and doesn’t look like any radiator replacement is noted so likely something to add to the PM list!

Another question for the experts to a n00b.... for anyone who’s familiar with repairs on the 200s vs other models, how much pricier are parts on these newer models vs a 100 or FZJ80?

I’m not a very experienced wrencher and sadly live in an apartment that doesn’t allow for me to do much work myself so would be throwing lots of $$ to labor too. If I had the space I’d be happily learning & working but seems less practical on the newer models unless I’m completely wrong! I assume more luxury features mean more expensive repairs all around

I remember this 200 being for sale on Craigslist towards the end of last year. Seller/PO said undercarriage had typical Midwest rust. I want to say the guy eventually dropped it down to $18,9 before it disappeared but I might be wrong. Someone else might recognize it.

I bought an LX a year ago with 209K on it. I have since replaced anything that spins (rotor, hubs, front bearings, rear bearings). The biggest improvement was the rear bearings, which I sadly did last. Per the mechanic, they were nearly at a full fail state (my ABS sensor got greased/failed a few weeks before the repair, which is usually a very good sign they are hosed). All of these were in various states of needing service.

Maybe check the wheel bearings if that thing has a snorkel did they drive through deep water?

@99Cruiser good call I'll definitely be checking that, and I've heard the KDSS valve is something else to watch

@JohnJB great to know thanks for the heads up, anything else you happen to remember about that post? I've been searching for a TLC the past year or so but was mostly looking for an FZJ80 or 100 series so not as familiar with most of the 200s in the community.

Northern rust definitely less than ideal but hopefully been kept up with washes in winter around here

The wheels are newer than 2009. 2016+? Make sure the TPMS is working. If the 2016 Toyota TPMS transmitters were reused, they won't talk to the '09 receiver and it'll throw an error code.

I recently bought an extra set of 2016 wheels just like those. They wouldn't talk to my 2013. I cloned the original 2013 TPMS transmitters using Autel TPMS transmitters with a Autel 501 machine and now all is good.

I changed the starter on my 2009 at 136000 miles as a precaution. I ordered a new one from Olathe Toyota parts then took the old one to a local shop for rebuilding. Same time I ordered the starter, I ordered a new solenoid. Local "good" shop could not find any brushes for the starter as they are built into an assembly. I ordered the assy from Amayama and saved over 50 bucks shipped from UAE on the part. Took a week to get the part. Part cost $121.00 shipped. Starter is like new and sitting on the shelf.

I just got mine with about 189K. I did Radiator, Toyota Starter (replaced with Reman at 105k, wanted the new toyota starter), Belts, All Fluids including transmission fluid exchange, Idler Pulley, Tensioner, Heater T's and hoses, Coil Packs, Spark Plugs, Fan Clutch. I would check and see when the Water Pump was replaced, the Starter and the Radiator.... Those were several huge issues with our rigs....

Did you have all work done at a shop or handle it yourself? One of my hesitations with a later model is integration with OBD and ability to self repair.

That sounds like everything I’d have on my list for first year work to do, super helpful thanks!

Thanks @SteveL starter would be on the list if it hasn’t already happened. How many miles on the rig now? Any other work done since then?

I didn’t do the rear bearings, I don’t have the tooling or the press. Had those done when the rear axle was apart anyway for the gears and locker.

The fronts and brakes are all straightforward particularly if you do the front hubs (bearings are already in the hubs). Not sure what an obd is but it didn’t get in the way.

For the front hubs you can use tundra hubs and save $ functionally they are the exact same.
