The touch screen on my 2006 100 began acting up, I ran the vehicle diagnostic and it sighted a faulty touch control panel. Essentially, the unit registers the touch way WAY off the mark, if at all.
Local Toyota could not fix with a hard restart, and claims the entire unit is faulted.
What are my options to replace this unit either OEM or aftermarket- and still maintain climate, nav, audio and back up camera functionality? If this unit did not integrate with so many systems I'd ignore it- but it is central to so many aspects of daily operation...

I think you are stuck with replacing it with another OEM unit. That's the big con with that setup, it controls the climate as well as the radio. I could be thinking about another model, but I thought you could just buy the multi-display (touch screen) separate. Might be worth your time to shop around, I imagine a complete OEM unit is $$$.

There are companies that specialize in repairing OE navigation units. I would just search for a reputable company that uses OE/Denso parts.

Repair or replace are your only two options. You could patiently watch eBay for a factory unit to pop up for a decent price. I've seen several over the years and then replace it yourself.

Don't bother asking the dealer, I think the retail price at the dealer for the navigation unit is around $4-5k.

Hind sight is 20/20...I probably would have skipped buying my truck because it has this very same system in it. It's a total PITA to integrate with, and impossible to replace... :bang:

Oh come on, the factory navigation is not the end of the world. If a stereo is the key decision factor of you buying a vehicle, then maybe the Land Cruiser isn't the right vehicle for you. You need to appreciate the LC for what it's capable of and the overall package.

Pain to integrate? I see lots of threads of people adding iPhone/USB/Bluetooth integration with zero issues. Myself included.

Having my climate controls integrated into a touchscreen is kinda scary. I've got my iPhone integrated with Bluetooth also, but honestly I'd rather not have to do the way I have had to it.

I saw a 2006 for sale recently without factory Nav. Yes, a 2006. (I came close to buying it but it was kinda rough.) Had a good old factory radio with separate climate controls. May be worth looking into replacing your factory nav with this setup.

I hear Jeeps come with good radios.:flipoff2:

That is an extremely rare special factory order configuration. Also since you noted it was kinda rough, I wouldn't be surprised if this was an ex-diplomat vehicle coming back from overseas.

Either way, it's been researched on swapping out the factory head unit and nobody has successfully located all the parts. Also the issue is we are pretty sure the wiring harnesses are different and would need to be custom modified. In other words, not an easy (or cheap!) swap by any means. Hence why you don't see a bunch of us running around with it done.

Yep, Im well aware of how rare it was. But, I ran the VIN history report on it and it was first delivered to a dealer in the US. It had been wheeled. Had running boards removed, BFG Mud Terrains on LX470 wheels, and lots of mud splashes under the hood. Also dirty carpet.

That's the one in GA that has been for sale for a while. I went so far as to contemplate buying it, swapping out dash and wiring harness with mine, detailing it and trying to flip it for about the same its for sale for or a little less with NAV installed.

tempting aint it? is it still for sale? I couldn't find it again.

Oh how I wish it was realistic to swap out the MFD for analog climate controls! I could always turn the heater on and off in the old 40 and 62!
Anyone have a photo of the non-MFD dash in a 100?

Did you replace the MFD already? If it gives you errors like "check external connection" or "audio disconnected" or "Bluetooth fails" the I may know what the issue is. There is a hairline crack in a solder joint for the beep sound. The beep whenever you press a key. It's common in 2004, 05s and some 06s. I sent mine in to Get repaired, and get it back today. Check out the website, it's a $300 repair. Www.circuitboardmedics.com. I'll report back if it's good after I reinstall it.

I have a 2004 and ran in to issues with my Nav. years ago. Searched for all kinds of options but for ease of use and compatibility I ended up forking over like $4800 for a new one from the dealership. I have heard now that you can find refurbished ones but do not know where to look.
