'06 Gx470 Ambitious Nav audio & carplay upgrade maybe gone wrong?

Try this again.... I put a grom BT3 into my GX, and noticed that since I will NEVER use the CD player, I just took it out and used the space to put the grom unit and have it for extra stuff. I put everything together, started it up and everything worked fine. The stereo turned on; I was streaming from my iphone and the volume control on the radio worked great. I had some other wiring to do, so I turned off the car, and pulled the Nav unit out again to move some wires behind it, put it back together and I was done. Went into town this morning and the radio (streaming through the grom) was working intermittantly and finally stopped working. I was fiddling with the buttons and dials, to no avail and about 30 seconds later the music is streaming at full blast in the car, and I cannot turn it down from the radio- I have to turn it down from my iphone. Got to where I was going turned it off and came back and started it again, and nothing worked- the radio wouldn't turn on and the Nav screen was showing weird stuff. Got home did a hard reset, unplugging the battery for 30 minutes, and everything - except the radio came back online. Radio is dead. No fuses blown.

My question is did I blow it by pulling out the CD? I see people selling 3D pirinted cubby hole boxes, so I assume other take out the CD. I asked ai, and it said the CD actually does other stuff and because it is gone, the radio may not work because there is no continuous connection to all the parts associated with the radio. Has anyone heard of this? Any way to fix it? Does the Grom kit supposedly mimick the CD so you can take it out?

It's a CANBUS system, so it's totally possible removing the CD player caused the issues. I'd plug it back in and see if the problem goes away. They best way to get around these issues with a GX470 is just to do a non-nav conversion so you can use any head unit, but that has it's own set of challenges.
