I had a stalling problem that happened about once a month and never threw a code. My problem was the MAF sensor was slow to respond.

My symptoms were it would drive fine until it was idling at a red light or going down a hill. As soon as I applied the gas pedal, then it would start missing and go dead. It would start up perfectly and then drive fine.

I think this and my Alt-S alternator problem is the reason why the previous owner sold this 2001 LX with 107,000 miles that is in otherwise great shape. Their Toyota dealership couldn't ever fix the problem.

Gremlin showed up again. Removed 20 amp EFI fuse. Replaced fuse. Runs well. It's not recognizing the key. It's been about two months since this last occurred. Has anyone tried contact cleaners or contact lubes, i.e. bulb grease ?

I have had the same issue last month. I paid $200 for dealer to check and they came back with nothing helpful. Turnout I ordered efi relay bypass kit here on IH8MUD and the issue seems to be solved. You could try.

I’m having similar symptoms in my ‘00 TLC. Starter and alternator have been replaced within the past 1-2 years. Fuel pump and battery have also been replaced within the last year. Will check the EFI fuse and check to make sure wiring appears to be in the right spot from prior timing belt replacement. Need to find the ‘for sure’ culprit so I can trust it. Hate having to cross my fingers every time I go to start it.

It seems to recognize the key as the red flashing g car symbol turns off whenever i insert it.

Any thoughts on it possibly being something with the ignition?
