I found a great 1985 BJ-70 (canadian) just over the boarder. For a great price, rust free and fair miles.

#1) Anyone know of a reputable/good inporter in the Seattle/Vancouver area?
and an idea of what it will cost?

#2) Whats the DMV going to do to me?

#3) Anything I need to do to bring it to U.S. specs

There was a lot of info on this topic in the Land Cruiser Mailing List (LCML) IIRC.
I keep seeing a Diesel cruiser for sale in Canada on the Spokane Craigslist and I wonder how much I would have to pay somebody to allow me to license it in the US.

People have already posted the names and numbers of a few reputable importers familiar with that vehicle. Use the search tool here ;)

Good luck, enjoy :)

1) CARCO in Blaine, Wash and Vancouver, Can is the reputable importer I used-approx $300.
2) They will title the BJ.
3) No.

Just reading over the website below, and the List of Nonconforming Vehicles Eligible for Importation (September 2010) includes Land Cruisers from 1986-1996 as eligible for importation. The LCs are listed with "VSP" eligibility numbers whieh "are assigned to vehicles that are decided to be eligible under 49 U.S.C. § 30141(a)(1)(A), based on a petition from a manufacturer or registered importer which establishes that a substantially similar U.S.-certified vehicle exists." So, it looks pretty doable if you have a cruiser from those years.

This link will give you info on importing in the USA. As well as a list of registered importers who could help you.

Vehicle Importation and Certification Requirements

No need for an importer if its a 1985.

I drove my 85 over the border on its 25th birthday, no problem.

id look that one over carefully with regards to rust.....

5 years old and rust free.... maybe believable.....

25 years old? in Canada?

I know - I know - BC doesnt salt roads anything like Ontario

but, great price rust free, and fair miles doesnt add up

im just sayin.....

Just FYI, this Eligibility is only for LHD unless RHD is specified. Tried to utilize this but my truck is RHD so they wouldn't sign off without a "certified letter from the manufacturer stating that the RHD version would perform similarly in crash tests."
