Stock Gearing ? for 60 series

Exactly what the title says. My dad has a 85 cruiser and I would like to know what the stock gearing in the differentials would be. How about the transfer case/tranny first gear............... better yet, what would be the crawl ratio for a stock 60 series ....Thanks in advance....

The diffs are 3.73:1

First gear is 3.5:1

Crawl ratio: 3.5(tranny) X 1.99(t-case low) X 3.73(diffs) = 26:1

I thought the transfer case low was 2.28 so it would be (3.5*2.28*3.73=29.7)?

There are two different transfer cases on 60's...early is 1.99, later is 2.28. Tech trivia section up top says 85 - 87 is 2.28. So, crawl would be 29.7!

If you install an H55 and a later t-case (which I believe started in 4/86!) it gets more respectable.

4.9 (tranny) X 2.28 (t-case low) X 4.11 (diffs) = 45.3 : 1. That's still pretty anemic but a long way from a stock 60.

You really start to make gains with a Toybox or similar:

4.9 (tranny) X 2.28 (t-case) X 4.8(Toybox) X 4.11 (diffs) = 217 : 1. I want one.

Arent the diffs actually 3.70 and not 3.73?

The tech trivia say 1.99 but this page says all tc are 2.28 or higher.Wonder which is right?

I'm close to that. 4.9 (tranny) x 1.99 (t-case) x 4.7 (Toybox) x 3.7 (diffs) = 170:1. I can't wait....

Are you sure? I have heard that as well, but I think in the USA they really changed ratios in 4/86 when they went to the larger idler shaft. I also remember Cruiserdan said only 1 part number for the t-case through 3/86 and a new part number 4/86-87.

And I always thought that the 1.99 went with the H55F and the 2.28 went with the US and the 3.55 first gear 4spd

I have 4.9 (h55f)x4.7 (toybox)x2.28 (splitcase)x4.88 (diffs)

What's that? About slow enough:1 behind a diesel I figure. Now to make the diesel produce enough power to hit redline when all cases are in 1:1

The gear ratio for the transfer case is unclear here at the tlca calulator.What is the TC low ratio for all 60?

I would like to know what is right. I made an gear calculator in excel that lets you input and change different options(tire size,double tc's,gears) and it shows your speed and rpm and what not for whatever gear you want to see.I would like to get some accurate numbers and then maybe I can post it up so everyone can check it out.

I thought only the HJs with an auto got 2.28?

Not that it helps you but all the Aussie 60s 5 speeds had 4.11 the 4 speeds were 3.73.

I did remember seeing a link somewhere that explained the Vin or some numbers that made sense at the time when I checked mine
I will try and find the link for you

Thanks all for the confusion ... Just asking these questions about my pop's 60 series because I wanted to know were our staring baseline is.. I think some 4:11's and a h55 are definitly in the near future..think that is pop's new project..

One thing is clear - your pops 60 doesn't have 4.11's and the h55, and his crawl ratio would be signifantly improved with those mods. Guess the transfer is still a little muddy...
