Something I found for the tether to anchor on. The device is an non-US OEM (not Toyota) device that allows the tether to be attached to the seat anchor post on the floor. It is easily removed and can be fitted on most vehicles with seatbottom that can be tilted or removed (most SUVs and minivans).

The hook is displayed in the foreground and in the background, a similar hook is attached to the second row seat anchor post with the tether strap attached.

Where did ya find it?

Since I have removed my 3rd row seats, I anchor to the floor where the seat would latch in.

I tried this setup before. The tether strap seems to get in the way whe loading things in the cargo area. Another way to attach the tether is using the Britax strap on the second row anchor, which also interferes with the seat operation.

Another Britax user! Got a King, and a Wizard in the second row. I use the double top secret front (yes, front) cargo hooks to anchor the tethers. I've looked at how they're mounted, and they seem to be stout enough for this application. This way, third seat operation is not affected, and the tether is attached a bit rearward for superior control of the child seat.

Dig around in the carpet and you'll find a slit, which you can then feel around through until you find a steel ring. I cannot believe I owned my truck for 11 years without knowing this cargo hook was there. I've now dug it out of 3 other 80s whose owners did not know either. Another 80 mystery.

97 FZ...you got PM. The wife will be tickeled to death to get to use her tethers on the Britax!!

Thanks!

I'll have to find tat anchor too. My wife is a big fan of the anchor setup. We've got a "Cow-moo-flage" britax.

I forgot to add that these adaptors cost $3 each. The shipping cost more than the adaptor!

Cargo anchors when I needed kids seats

My brother uses the Britax seats in his 60. I learned about those by the time my kids were out of carseats. I'm glad I found out how nice they were when it was too late to buy them for my kids, because they are the heaviest car seats on planet Earth and it's sucks to swap them between vehicles! Super nice seats, but heavy as lead.

Doug,

How about a pix or two so I could approximate my searching area (I'm not sure they're available since mine is an LX)?

I have an Advantage and a Roundabout - Both of my kids love them - Thanks again for the recomendation!

SJ,

The 4 cargo hooks are also installed on the LX. On the four corners of the cargo area, there is a L slit in the carpet. Pull the carpet up and you should see a J hook that is hinged to fold down below the cargo floor. If you have the OEM cargo carpet mat, the 4 cargo hooks are not covered by the cargo mat.

The OTHER Doug here... :D

They're tucked in under there. I found them by accident one day whilst vacuuming behind the front seats. Feel around on the carpet until you find the hole (dang...that sounds kinda dirty :flipoff2: ) -- you'll find the hooks -- they're just where the front seats end if you have them moved all the way back.

They look just like the set you have in the cargo area.

Doug,

Are you saying there's ANOTHER pair behind the front seats?? This is getting funny. Seriously, I'm speaking of a pair at the front corners of the cargo area behind the 2nd row. Did you mean behind the FRONT seats??

My mistake. They're behind the 2nd row seats. I just went out and verified.
I think I was confusing the hooks I found in our old Accord with the 80.

Ah, bummer. I've actually wished there were tie downs behind the front seats so when you've got the cargo area enlarged by folding the 2nd row there would be something to tie the heavy stuff to at the front where you naturally want the heavy stuff. Ya know??

I have three car seats in our truck now - two are attached to the forward cargo hooks - I'm a bit scared with the open loop design, but it seems like the best place. I've thought about unbolting the hook and reinstalling with a closed teather anchor.

The third child seat is hooked into one of the third row striker plates - much more solid, but it does take up cargo space - that's what the roof box is for!

Cheers, Hugh

The OEM cargo hooks behind the second and third row seats are very useful for attaching the child seat tether in the outboard position, but does not work well for the child seat tether in the center position due to the offset angle between the child seat and the cargo hook. To attach the tether strap in the center position I used to use the Britax tether strap connector on the middle row striker bar, but it is hard to remove and install, and get in the way of the striker operation. This tether adaptor replaced the Britax tether strap connector, and it is easily removed should the need arise tilt the seat forward for the extra cargo space.

Ya know I never thought to do a search...:o Seems like every question you can think of has been asked!
Ok, so how do I get that teather anchor?
