I can only find 1 post with any mention of hydro assist on a wagon. It was posted by RockDog4x4 owner of the "wallace project". He said he was running Redneck Ram assist on his SOA fj60.

Anybody else run it? I'm just entertaining the idea at this point. I like the idea of finger tip seering, but I don't like the idea of tearing steerig arms off the knuckles. What do you guys think?

I have no info on hydro assist but I have a power steering (GM) pump with the hydro assist brake lines I can make you a sweet deal if you need it.

I know several people running the Rocklogic style on their 60's... I have been running their kit on my 40 for a year now with excellent results! :D

Details??

This is an easy DIY project. A Saturday and about $200 will get it done. In my opinion it is the best mod you can do for the money.

Sounds like an interesting and useful modifcation. Can you elaborate?

The only mystery is figuring out where to port the box. This setup seems cleanest to me. Other than that its just a tab on the tie rod and another on the axle housing with an 8" ram between. Some hoses and a bit of bleeding and you are golden.

This is something I'm looking at too....have a feeling the stock steering isn't up to the 38.5" SX's that are coming this spring. Lowenbrau, do you have any more info on the pic posted with the box ported on top. Most articles show it ported on the side.

A 6" ram will limit steering somewhat if you are running the chromo longfields. I went to an 8" on my rig because I had bobby's 30 spline axles and could run the steering stops all the way in without fear of breakage.

And yes, to properly port a box, you would have to pull the box apart.

Cool.

I'd imgine you'd have to pull the box to port it regardless?

I've never tried porting one while it was in the truck but I supose you could. I always have dissasembled the box on the bench. They are way simpler than you'd imagine and once you've seen it apart you get all sorts of ideas about where the best places are to port it for your application.

I have to do one for my BJ60 project soon, I'll document the process and post it here.

I sell Rock Logic kits for $220 plus about $15 shipping for a 6" or 8" ram.

Foxfab, can you hit me back with the lenth of the 8" Rock Logic ram, centre of eye to centre of eye. Greatly appreciated.

I was in RD this morning but I'm Calgary based. You might see a couple of Cruisers heading down to River Shiver http://www.rmlca.ab.ca/rivershiver from there today. Watch for a green FJ40 and a blue BJ42. That'll be Charla and Chris.

not as much an issue on a 60, but fitting a 40 with assist is tuff due to ram length....my WTOR 6" stroker with the AllPro histeer arms made for some creative fitting to allow the ram full extension without contacting the springs.

The design of the 4x4 Labs arms gave me better turning, and the 8" stroke ram is behind the axle and well protected now. 1.5" bore, pinky-steering....very nice.

I agree, Woody
I got Luke to build me some arms that are identical side to side. I'll put the ram on the front of the ds arm, up high and basically have the ram directing one wheel and the box directing the other and the tierod will only really be there to make sure they play nicely.
