The guys at 3fe have been invaluable in helping me diagnose some of my potential AT Overtemp issues. In order to wrap my warped mind around the concept I made a small cut and paste diagram of the oil flow to and from the AT cooler. Here it is.

If transmission heat is an issue. Try to provide at least a 1” air gap between coolers for optimum performance.

Do you mean between AT cooler and Radiator?
Im a newbie so I really have only a minimal grasp of this stuff so far.
I wouldnt want it touching the radiator for sure. It even kinda worries me, in that it blocks air meant for radiator.

D Some aftermarket coolers come with a zip ty type method of mounting(rad to rad)-the worst. Some others come with flat strap - better but not the best IMO but it will enable you to keep off the other rad. If your 62 is AC equipped you might need to modify the center grill mount to get the room you need for space. When you remove the grill you will see what I'm trying to say.

I have taken the grill off. I did this to get at my radiator to inspect and clean.

Dont tell me that I have to vent the AC and reroute.
Euclid just did that install. He posts on 3FE alot so you probably have alot of his info. He fabbed a bracket that bolts behind that hood latch. It is a clean, simple, and very effective design. I will be doing the same project soon. PM Euclid with any questions.
I mounted mine to the AC evaporater using the zip-type rods that came with the cooler with foam rubberish spacers between evaporator and mounting flanges on cooler. So far, so good. I didn't need to modify the grill but did need to tweek the AC lines a little.
The bracket I made is just a flat piece of steel. I drilled some holes in it to use the factory bolts that hold the hood latch on to hold the flat steel in. It drops down and holds the B&M cooler in position. There is no atachment point below the cooler. I routed my fluid through the cooler after radiator, per suggestion of Rodney at http://www.automatictransmission.com.au/news.asp.
THe picture shows how the bracket holds the cooler in. I just didn't like the idea of that cooler being held to my truck by zip ties going through the radiator. I did have to move the power steering cooler line that runs in front of the radiator forward a little bit to keep it from rubbing my cooler. The new cooler is about 1.5 inches from the radiator, just behind the center support.
I was having overheating problems pretty regularly before the install. No problems now, including the 1300 Mile one way trip to PA for the 3FE bash.
