Im looking at the Cobra 75 WX ST All-in-handset Mobile CB, nice solution for a '40 with limited places to put a CB. Has anyone used one? Are they any good?
I especially like the weather bands. The only complaint I have is the PTT switch does not work when the mic is cold. In cold weather I have to turn trhe unit on and hold the mic in my lap to warm it up enough for the switch to function. I have not bothered to see about repairing it but I imagine the mic would need to be sent in for repair.
The little speaker in the handset never sounded good. I added an external speaker which is better but still not that great. The on/off/volume dial is scratchy (scratchy pot). The handset itself is fairly heavy and has broke off the plastic tab used for hangin it the mic holder, I glued it back twice and now try to leave it off when driving bumpy roads.

Would I need an external speaker with the Uniden in a '40 with no doors/hardtop?

Nope, it works great with the stock speaker. I run with no doors, and a bikini top, at least in the summer. The Uniden 510 has to be the best deal out there. It's cheap, bomb proof and works. I have one mounted overhead on my roll bar, with the speaker facing downward. Mine got wet on Rubithon last year (actually everything got wet) and it worked just fine. It still works now. Cheap mic though, I assume one day it will have to be replaced.
I run that same cheap ass Uniden in my 40 with no doors and bikini only, 'cept I run the external speaker cause I can hear worth a chit anyway. I love that little POS.
I bought the Uniden, put it in the night before my first trail run with Rising Sun. In a 40 with a bikini top, no doors and lots of rattles it was plenty loud and worked like a champ. Thanks
I like my Cobra 75 WX ST, I bought the extra box so I can switch it from the hauler to the wheeler. Works awesome, but does need the external speaker or I need a hearing aid. :
