..to my wife's surprise today I purchased a 67FJ40 (recently sold my 72FJ40)...some info on her...PO bought it from California 5 years ago (it's true what I have heard, dry climate=minimal rust damage!!), she didn't need too much work, fixed a few things and drove her around on and off...work took time away from putting more hands on with the FJ so it sat on his parent's property for a few years...however his dad would crank her up everyday and drive her around his neighborhood...anyway they thought it was time to let her go so I got word form LakeNormanFJ40 that he saw it for sale and here we are....looks like she is mostly stock (90%) with a few minor mods, original F engine and carb., roll bar, front and jump seats need to be repaired or replaced (no biggie), three on the tree (I am going to have to get use to this), frame and chasis virtually rust free, body is great condition no major rust through areas or rot just some minor, minor surface rust and two areas where bondo was used but not b/c of rust/rot but to repair a very minor bang up, she has the cruiser lean!!....brakes need to be worked on (brake pedal goes all the way to the floor!!) nothing major, some friends and I are going to replace the rear wheel cylinders and brake pads and see what happens, or I may buy a brake kit from JT Outfitters or Man a fre...I am sure as the days go by I will find other things to work on but fortunately this FJ does not require too much...I will post my progress as it happens...look forward to the input, feedback and assistance.....Roger
...P.S...I have tried for 45 minutes to upload pics from my computer but I keep getting an error...pics are JPEG image...can that be the problem, the images may be too big..anyone have ideas on how to make them smaller??...as soon as I can figure it out I will submit pics...if anyone can help I would appreciate it (when I had my 72FJ I was able to load pics...weird, may jpegs were smaller)...

thanks...kicking it old school with the three on tree...hope I can get use to it...R

Nice find, enjoy the experience!

Love the 3 in the tree, can get a little sloppy though. You'll get use to it quickly, just don't force it, shift slowly

x2. You gotta shift slowly. Forcing will only grind. Shifting to first or reverse will balk unless you are shifting from second or third. First and reverse aren't synchro-meshed. Only shift to first and reverse at a full stop. This is what works for me. No doubt you'll find your own rig's eccentricities in due time. :)

I love my three-on-the-tree. It's truly retro and is a fantastic theft-deterrent system.

You yeah, nice clean rig!

Nice looking and in great shape. It's great to see pictures of them in this shape. A lot less work 4U. Excellent find!

Very nice find. Not only is the rust minimal but it looks as if the seals were in good shape as I didn't see an oily coat under it. As for the 3 in the tree, the only draw backs for me is the difficulty shifting while yacking on the cell and eating.:D
(As if I could actually hear anything but road noise). Seriouslly though I say ditto to the previous posts, shift slow and easy and it should work like a charm.

Chris

im curious with the shifting into first...if you match your RPM's shouldnt it shift without much grief?

oh yea...nice rig, looks good and clean from the pictures! i would love to get my hands on a 3 in the tree...hhhmmm put it on the cruiser wants list...

Thanks to everyone for the props...she is nice and almost rust/rot free...good start...I will be tackling the brakes in a few weeks and will be looking for advice/suggestions/input,etc on disc brake conversion or keeping the drum brakes...looks like I am going to replace the rear wheel cylinders, brake shoes and rear brake hoses...any leads on to where to get them..I have heard negative feedback about JT Outfitters, looked through SOR and Man a fre, not sure if I am reading the descriptions wrong but can't seem to locate cylinders for a 67...your ideas are welcomed here...thanks again...once you start, there is no turing back....Roger

Sweet nice find, welcome back to Cruiser Nation. :)
