Well I got started on my project the other day. Im making a soft top/tonneau cover for my Runner because my tailgate is fawked and missing the glass and I can't find one for less than 300 bucks right now. This is really more of a prototype that I made out of junk laying around and it's not done yet. Im gonna run it this summer and if I like it Im going to make a nice one with good material.

I made a frame that bolts into the existing factory holes out of an old steel bedframe. Right behind the roll bar Im going to fab a mount that well clamp down to a piece of canvas and Im going to run it up over the roll bar to the cab. Im going to use flexible clear plastic (found at walmart cheap) for the windows, and the rear window will be the size of what you see through the roll bar in the rear view mirror. I haven't quite figured out how to make a frame that can be easily taken apart for where the top mounts to the back of the cab and where it curves down into the bedrails but I'll get there. This is just a start. So far I like it though. I'm going to build latches on the rear cover so I can padlock it shut, and Im building a little cage just behind the wheel wells and thats where my sub box/amps will be. Im not going to have to worry as much about thieves getting the expensive part of my stereo system that way. I think I may take out the glove box and build my own locking one and put my stereo head unit in there but that's further down the road. It'll hopefully be the most secure topless vehicle yet.

And a pic of the stock beast wheeling. This thing came from Illinois and the shackles are locked up worse than I have ever seen!

I'm not really sure, it says 4wd, but its not like an emblem I've ever seen on a Toyota before. I've only had this truck for like 3 or 4 weeks now so I'm finding lots of neat little doodads that the 2 po's decided to install. This thing is pretty much a beater but I'll fix it. I'm going to play around a little bit today and see what I can do to make my frame for the soft top. It's going to be tricky to seal it up but I really don't want to pay 900 bucks for a can-back or get a kayline and drill a bunch of holes in my truck. It could be done for a lot cheaper than either of those options, and customized to what I want.
