POR 15 PATCH, anyone used this stuff?

I am planning on fixing some minor rust on my hardtop. I have some pinholes along one of the corners on the back half where it meets the tub and was leaning toward using the POR 15 PATCH product.

Anyone have any experience with this PATCH product? http://www.por15.com/POR-PATCH?sc=2&category=148

Search yielded poor results with no real feedback specific to the Patch.

Is it worth it or should I use something else?

Well I cant say that I have used the patch. I did how ever use the whole set up with the etching compound the can of it. I personally was very very happy with the outcome. I used it for my floor pan and rear pan on fender wells etc. its like a bed liner without being ruff to me. Kind of weird how its in a tube like that but thats just my 0.02 cents.

O if you do go that route dont get it on your skin. stuff stays on your forever... not literally for but for almost 2 weeks thats for sure...

I have the patch kit. I have not used the patch, but the POR15 works great. Finishes like it was powder coated. Even when you brush it on. As long as you don't brush over the same spot twice before it tries. I repaired my Hard Top by cutting out all the rust and welding new sheet metal, then coated it with POR15 to prevent any rust. Can't tell it was done.

While I have nothing bad to say about POR15 itself, I tried the patch kit and was less than impressed. It's essentually a fiberglass mesh you paint POR15 over, lets just say the holes I patched were showing daylight soon after.

I am familiar with POR-15 and have used it before. Also the Patch product is not their Mesh screen product.

Has anyone used their patch product? ie seam sealer? The link in the first post should go directly to the Patch product.

I have four tubes of the POR patch and am getting ready to use them on my Piggie. I would have used them already but the POR15 paint worked great in filling small seams on the interior body. I have a couple of holes on my roof, bigger than pinholes, that I am hoping to be able to just use the POR Patch on. I'll post up how it goes in my thread (see sig).

If the POR Patch works anywhere near the POR15 paint I will be very impressed.

The seam sealer and the putty have worked fine for me for these uses. I have also used the mesh to fix an old under seat gas tank. Seems to be holding.

Well I just tried the POR Patch (the stuff in the tube) last weekend... it seemed a little more watery than I expected fwiw. This was my first use of any POR product and ordered it from the distributer in Montreal ...I also ordered the Starter Kit.

Anyway the target area was a gas filler pipe/neck on a 1997 LX450 that had rusted around the attachment bracket to the frame. The holes were not that large..some pinhole, some a little larger all resulted from corrosion. The pipe leaked when being filled and when the tank was full, fuel leaked /dripped. Also the fuel tank held no pressure as is normal after driving for a 20 or so minutes. I had previously put a neoprene "bandage" on the first leak that occurred but further corrosion caused more leaks.

I have ordered a new pipe from CDAN (a true professional in every sense!) The POR Patch is simply an expedient that I tried hoping that at the least it would keep dirt and dust out of the fuel system till the new pipe is installed.

The starter kit gives a cleaner (Marine Clean) and some sort of metal prep fluid. I removed as much of the loose material as I could with a scraper. Applied the cleaner mixed with very hot water and used a large plastic spray bottle with hot water to wash it down. Did the same with the metal prep liquid and followed up with more hot water spray to clean the area.

Using gloves provided and a piece of tinfoil as a "palette" I smeared the POR Patch on the area..also pushed as much as I could in the crevices around the bracket etc. Cause it isn't that thick in consistency it seemed to flow into the crevices ok.

I continued to build up with more Patch material for several minutes - more to ensure I got the corrosion covered than to build depth - again it (or at least my tube) wasn't as thick as GOOP for example.

Anyway I gave it about 36 hours to harden /set up and I am pretty pleased that the stuff has sealed the leaks and the tank holds pressure as well..at least I get a satisfying release of vapour when I crack the cap open now AND I do not smell gas fumes around the vehicle after shutdown as I did before when I had the leak.

Been about a week and it is still holding up. So all in all seems pretty good. Fortunately I will not be able to do a real "long term test" as I plan the put the new pipe in as soon as I can.

But there you are...in my case it worked as advertised ... so far!
