Backyard Bio-Diesel.

I have been using home made bio diesel in my bj.

I made zero mods to the rig. I just pour it in the tank and go.

Here are some pics from "a friends" backyard.

I post the BASIC steps once all the pics are up.

My 3b runs smoother and may "tach" a LIL faster on bio diesel.

It most likely only feels faster since the engine is running that much smoother.

The smell from the exhaust is appealing to me to for many reasons.

1st, it smells like COL Sanders is cooking. MMM

2nd, the bio exhaust doesn't stink up pedestrian laden service and delivery parking zones. (ie in front of hospitals/starbucks etc.)

This allows me to leave the bj running on short trips w/o choking anyone. (key removed, steering wheel locked, bulldog on front seat)

Making bio is a fairly simple chemical process.

Here are the BASICS:

Test used oil for fat concentration. This determines the amount of lye required.

Heat 40 gallons of waste oil to 120* in an old hot water heater.

Add lye and 10 gallons of methanol to the heated oil.

This will remove the glycerin from the mix.

(Glycerin makes used veggie oil thicken at room temperature)

Add h20 to the mix. Stir. Let mix sit overnight.

Remove h20. (repeat this step if desired)

The h20 will help remove any remaining particle matter.

Your now have Bio Diesel.

BioJ60 in action. off road use only

Cool!, Looks like you've got the process mastered.
Great work!
You've probably got the only BJ in Florida.

Fl cruiser-

Were you in the ONF over MLK weekend?

I spotted a brown cruiser with a diesel..... it was a converted fj60.

Another guy in town has a 83bj40.

Shelia, another guy in Gainesville, rolls a 81 HJ.

I havn't seen too many others, although I know they are out there.

I absolutely love mine.

Yeah, that was me with the brown 60. I wanted to check out your rig, but you were gone when I went looking for it.

I have an 81 HJ60, but it's down in Costa Rica.

Love it......

Awsome write up. Just make sure you explain to the police that you are making bio - and that it's not a meth lab:) That looks like quite the science experiment.

Thanks for posting that.

How did you removed H2O since the oil is lighter than water ?
