I have coolant leak from freeze plug area next to oil filter. There are about a couple of people that have similar problems like me. I have talked to IdahoDough, and Raven before. I really hope that I don't have crack on the block! :frown:

I am seriously thinking about selling it, and please convince me to keep it. :frown: I hate to let my baby go as 80 was my dream car, and it only last it for a short period of time. :crybaby:

Keep it and fix it.
For what you'll pay to have it fix, you'll have a Cruiser with a new engine for many years. If on the other hand you sell it and buy another Cruiser. You will have to contend with HG issues, and a used engine.

Alvaro - I agree with you, but I wish I am :banana: :banana: :banana: to atleast fix myself. I wish I have $3000 lying around....Plus, my HG is currently original anyway.

Leaking freeze plug

Had the same problem with mine had the plug replaced 3 times by the Toyota dealer in about a year. The last time they told us they would not fix it anymore and that there was a crack in the block. Started to slowly weep again so I put some block sealer in it and it has not been a problem since. That was apx 5 years ago and at least 60000 miles no issues and plenty of trips to Colorado, So Cal and Oregon from Reno NV + 307000 miles on the motor as we speak. Maybe I am lucky but would take a closer look before getting rid of it.

Did you actually see crack?
 
Freeze plug

No I could not see a crack. And It was never leaking bad just weeping never coolant on the ground just around the plug. Mine is a 93 1FZFE I assume it is the same motor. medtro gave me some info the other day that had verified toyota's claim. I believe he said it was the sixth one he had heard about but did not say if there were any major failures from this.

All - I am very very sad to let you all know that I just accepted someone offer. :crybaby: I don't know what I am going to replace with.
 
Ting, WTF?? did you try to just replace the plug? it barely looks like a problem at all and at worth a couple simple fixes. talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater!
 
I just put a new plug in mine. Cost me $5 for the plug and a couple bucks for some loctite sealant. Used a brass drift and hammered it in. Took about 5 minutes.
 
not a big deal to fix it. if it doesn't last, fix it again later. Not a big deal.
Nothing stays perfect, even the Mona Lisa is falling apart

--and I don't see any cracks in your photos. did you try to replace the plug and have the area inspected???

Keep it!

As a guy who's interested in buying it, I recommend you keep it.

Run some block sealer through it and see what happens. What have you got to lose?

Contrary to what others have said, I think if you took out the freeze plug and coated the inside and outside with JB Weld, it would seal just fine too. Don't take my word for it though.

Read the thread below. It seems like the "pinning" or "metal stitching" repair would be permanent and shouldn't cost more than about $500.
