50th anniversary FZJ71

Toyota Venezuela is releasing a special edition FZJ71 to commemorate the 50th year since the first Land Cruiser was ever built, it comes from factory with: lockers front and rear, snorkel, bull bar, 9500lbs winch, full floating rear axle and I don't know what it's called in english but you no longer need to turn the dial on the hubs to be able to go into 4x4, they're automatic on this one (although you can switch them to "locked" permanently if you want), the production run is limited to 300. Here are some pics:

***I just realised that there is already a thread on this, mods please delete this one, sorry.

Where's the other thread on this? Edit: OK, I see. It's really a FJ, not a BJ. Nevertheless- totally awesome. What's the price they are the asking for it in Venezuela? If Toyota offered that rig in the US, they'd sell thousands!

From what I've heard the estimated price will be something like 45.000$ dollars... the same price as the 2006 fzj80 that we still fabricate. and the regular price of the fzj70 2006 is something like 33.000$ right now.

Really expensive prices but everyone here in Venezuela knows why are we paying that much, In case you dont it's a Land Cruiser and it last forever!!! it's also a really commun vehicule here and the people have been growing with them from the begining and we all know lot of stories from them and how the people in the little towns use them to work.

anyway It really worth the money.

Thank you for the information. The other thread on this landcruiser prompts another question: Is it true that new cars in Venezuela don't come with air bags?

NO ABS and no Airbags ..

Well, I don't feel like doing the math right now and there isn't an official price yet, but my friend's dad works at Toyota Ve. and he told me it would cost about 80million Bolivares (normally the top of the line one with power everything costs about 66-68 mill), he's getting one and he was even offered to buy the 1st they made (the one in the pics) but he didn't want it because that's basically the demo one. He's getting his for about 60mill because of the discount his dad gets for working at Toyota.

* 1us dollar= 2500-2700 Bolivares (that's blackmarket rate, the "official" rate is 2150Bs but that's not realistic).

It's not required by law (yet) so many base model (and cheap) vehicles come without them, but they usually have them available on more expensive cars (say, Civic, Corolla, etc and up). BUT the case of the Machito or FJ70 (did I get it right) is different because it's not a cheap vehicle, it's just bare bones equipment wise since it hasn't recieved any mayor changes since 1984 (except for the powertrain), it's basically a tractor with A/C and doors, and a cool one at that.

It sounds like it but you're paying 24-30k for a car that's over 20 years old in design, sure it's one heck of a car but still. And remember that our currency has lost a lot of value in a very short time, 4 years ago one of those wouldn't cost you more than 25mill, sure wages have also increased, but not that much compared to cost of products.

Keep in mind the price and the range of value ( salaries ) and hole economy in Latin America .. most in Vene with complicated political situation right now.

For us with Dolars .. can go over there and buy it as a real steal ! Here in Panamá a plain 70 series cost more than 30 k USD ( no power windows, no winch, no lockers, no snorkel no nothing . )

It's actually a FZJ71 and it was finally unveiled/released on Jan 25th

and that's precisely why it's not going to happen. they need to sell 10s of thousands to make a good profit. just look at the FJ Cruiser. They are everywhere-that's what makes money. 5000 xx70 series will just be a loss for toyota US.

end of hijack.

Ok Jan I guess you know the local scene better than I do, but when I hear of people in the US readily buying the Jeep Rubicon because they think it is a serious offroader, then that makes me think they would buy a real heavy duty 70 series if they knew it would outlast a jeep.
The 40 series sales faded towards the end of its run in the US probably because it was aging in terms of the competitions comfort and on road manners
But US consumers still buy the 100 series because of the landcruiser badge.

I know its not going to happen but what would Toyota US lose if they did sell the 70?
Its a 22 year old design and its technology well and truly paid for with all the vices weeded out long ago(if there was any).
Hey,and there is airbags on the way;)

Im always confused about american car companies and how they arrive at their consumer research, they must ask questions to get the answers they want.
The diesel jeeps are outselling the gasser models everywhere and magazine after magazine gives the diesel jeep engine the thumbs up, but still no diesel model for US buyers:confused:

does anyone know of a website where i can buy Toyota original equipment for the FZJ71? i have a 2006 model and i'm looking for the center console with arm rests i think the 50th anniversary has it

JAC83 i'm sure your friend might have an idea ;)

The only thing I see missing in this anniversary model are the front quarter windows and the fog lamps. Does this have power shutters and mirrors? Its good to see the front console and the large arm rests.

hi barboorr, are you in Venezuela?

If so, check the online store on www.cruiserheads.com, they have some center consoles for the 70

Is that a TOYOTA 70 series bumber?

Hi JAC83 is that a an original LC 70 bumber or it is as I expect a dealer option?

I think we are lucky too to have the 70 series available specially the FZJ71 in our countries, I think luck has very little or nothing to do with it, it is the good sales and that people still buy and preffer them over other soft driving trucks.

Long live the 70 series, they are the best out there and still strong and reliable as ever, and I really loved the 2007 "NEWER, NOT SOFTER" 70 series.
