No, I'm not trying to sell you beds, but just wanted to share some pics of mine when I finally got to put it to use last weekend.

Pic 1,2, & 3: Well... bed

Pic 1: The only problem was that it was on the incline.
Now it wouldn't have been as big of a deal if I could put my head on the incline, but since we were going to be sleeping sideways (four of us:crybaby: ), it was going to be a problem.

Pic 2: Solution

Pic 3: In place (OK, it's a temporal solution)

Pics 1 & 2: Closer to flat (I ended up installing the headrests back on/in to give the board additional support so it wouldn't snap when putting weight on)

Pic 3: Final result (with the window screens, of course!:D )

How comfortable is four in the back? I would go crazy trying to sleep with my two kids and wife in the back of the cruiser.

Sleeping sideways was NOT comfortable, AT ALL!!! At least for the two adults.
The kids, on the other hand, slept like logs!!!

Sleeping the "right way" (front-to-back) is more than comfortable though. The only problem is not having enough head room. But still I would do it again, especially doing it the right way. ;)

that's alotta work. you put a pad on top of that too so you don't feel all the grooves? i guess you have to be a little more elaborate though when you're sleeping for 4. i have a cig lighter i wired in the back so i just throw the back seat down plug in the inflator and stick it in the air matress. come back in a minute and crash with the women. i like your setup though just cause you have storage options underneath it. maybe make some pullout doors or something, could be pretty slick.

interesting setup for sure.

It's not THAT much work, really!

The top pieces can be zipped up together even when not in use, so you just slide it over to the folded (2nd-row) seats and zip two, short zippers (you can leave the one in your crotch up before crashing with the ladies:D ) and voila! you're in business.

Unless, of course, you don' t want to have your head on the incline. The gap between the (padded) boards are not really coming apart as most of them at zipped to an adjacent(sp) piece. And it's not all that uncomfortable to sleep on if there are just one or two of you.

Anyway... I should be in my futon about now though. :D

I have done a good bit of car camping in my 80 and luckily I am short enough that with a ground pad and diagnol I fit with everything closed up. Now if I add the wife then its getting tighter and could see doing the platform. But wife and kids that requires a big tent and or hotel

I plan on extending my rear cargo drawer system upwards a couple of inches so I can fit a large piece of plywood over the top of my fridge slide. Then I want to cut my cargo barrier in half and hinge it from the top of this new height cargo drawer. By using a couple of fold down legs to support the cargo barrier in the horizontal position a quick to set up bed with full gear storage and safety will hopefully be acheived. I will also gain a new storage drawer a couple of inches high when I raise the deck to clear the fridge.

So..... Are you driving to America?

Did you get this so you can drive to America. You don't have a snorkel do you?

:D

We flew this time!

I've been telling my wife that there needs to be a ferry that carries vehicles from the tip of Russia to Alaska so we can drive from Japan (taking another ferry ride to South Korea:D ) to N. America.

It's good to be back!

I'll post pics of my cargo shelf later today. I designed it to specifically be for a full-sized (double) air matress but also fit pelican cases (1600 series) below. The shelf is level with the second row seats when folded down. There's not too much you can do with the incline of the second row seats but it makes out for a comfy bed. Especially the air matresses that I'm selling over in the mud-bay section, as they fit perfectly, I have one I use for this exact purpose.
Bailey, you've seen this shelf and also Mark's (heckler) at the MLK run. Ironically enough we are about to start making these shelves to sale.

Here is the pic showing the shelve, now imagine the tire not strapped down in there...
A full size aerobed air matress fits perfect.

My outback drawers do the same thing basically, only real difference is that you have to remove the rear seats entirely to enable the system to be flat. I definately wouldn't want to try sleeping 4 in the back of my 80. I usually am by myself when I camp with it and that suits me just fine. Still all in all very cool Mot.
