Will a US-spec 60-series pitman arm fit a US-spec 80-series power steering box?

Clown-what are you doing? I have a spare 60 box with Pitman arm. Do you want me to pull the arm and send it down for testing?

I can check when I get home but Just looking at the PS box from the 80 that I have. The arm its self is almost twice the siz of the 60 series also the tapers are different. I am installing the ported box in my 60 series for use with a hydro set up...

But that doesnt mean it wont work...

Mmmmm. Ok, so how different are the steering boxes between the 60 and 80? Is it possible to mount and plumb a 60 box on an 80? This is exactly why I need mulitple Land Cruisers!!!!

Andy, this is an attempt to deal with the steering on the 80 on multiple levels. I'm not a fan of unnecessarily lowering anything on the truck but the steering linkage angle is not good so something has to change. I've noticed the 60 pitman arm has quite a bit more drop to it than the 80 one and a lot of folks loose the stock one when they go hi-steer on the 60 so they should be easy to source. On the 80 this will be all the lowering on the frame side of things I'll do and make up the rest on the knuckle side to try and get the steering linkage (and panhard) as close to parallel with the ground as possible. Work on the knuckle side is a whole other thread but you get the idea.

This pitman arm swap could accomplish a nice ~2" drop for very little effort and help in the interim with steering. And yes I know I'll eventually need to go full hydro so leave me alone :hillbilly:

edit: and sorry to post in the 60 section without actually owning one

Well whadda ya know but I am running an fj62 box on my 80.:D

and Ill be running a 80 series box soon enough on my 60. After a frame swap to an fj62 frame Ill throw in the 80series box on because the bolt patterns are the same. Might also be a later fj60 box that will have the same bolt pattern but my Nov81 60 has different bolt pattern.

good luck and let me know if I can be of any help...

This is funny...

I just installed an FJ80 arm on my FJ60 box for less drop...

I have an FJ60 arm if anyone needs one...

Well that seems to confirm that the two are interchangeable...

Send me one for further testing! Since you 60-series guys are more familiar with porting and upgrading the 60 steering box, is the 80-series one a "bolt on" upgrade? Has anyone ported the 80 box to get its output increased? Guess I need to put this thread where ????

I'm not a 60 series guy ;) the box is on my 40, which is why I needed an arm with less drop.

60-70-80 series and IFS pitmans all interchange... This is useful because there are a lot of IFS aftermarket arms in production...

There is not as much meat around the draglink end of the FJ60 pitman arm as on the 80 series arm, this could be a problem if you want to run 1-ton chevy TRE's.

Mike- I think that you could tap an 80 box in the same locations as a 60 box for hydro assist. From what I can tell they are pretty much the same box. Just like the same locations for an IFS box work for an FJ60 box.

I'm not givin away that 60 arm, but its definatly for sale. :D

Ok, anyone know of an aftermarket source for a beefier 60-series arm..one with the stock or more drop instead of flatter/less drop. Thanks.

Not that Im aware of...I am sure there is one for the mini box though. If you are running a stock like rig im sure just a 60series are will be enough. I have beat on rig fairly well with 33s,35s,37s and the stock pitman arm....

Al, I'll definitely try the standard 60 arm but I am running the GM 1-ton TRE's and this is all part of my attempts for hi-steer on the front of my 80 that is getting 3-linked. I've got an extra set of 80-series knuckles and steering arms that we're using to tinker on the axle end of things but it seems pretty straight forward that on the frame end of things using a pitman arm like the one on the 60 will be an easy improvement. I'm fairly certain it'll run 39.5 Iroks...;)

Now were talkin:D

If all the arms are innerchangeable try checking out the mini stuff possible marlin crawler...

Bailey - thanks I'll check into that
