Vehicle in question... 94 FZJ80 I just had it hooked up to a snap-on scanner. Scanner says front o2 sensor, Rich 67, lean 68, Ok cool we know its the o2 sensor but the they are side by side they are left and right but at Toyota dealer they are listed as front and back. So my question is which one is front? Thats kinda lane to list somthing front and back when they are side by side.

A well placed call to Cdan may answer your question and put you on the right track for the replacement part at a great price.........

It's been awhile since I changed mine on the '94, so can't help otherwise. It's not a hard job unless the nuts are rusting.

not worried about the job just want to know which is which.

I'll check my FSM after my visit to the Red Cross this evening to see what, if anything it says.

May be worth changing both out.

94's must be different than the 97's cause mine's got one in the front of the Cats and one after. Suprised your dealers not able to decifer what you need, assuming it is list incorrectly, and he's looking at the right year.

So by the readings, how do you know which one is bad?

Like da man says: Call CDan! :)

Just a guess, but maybe "front" is cyl's 1-3.

Correct. Front is cylinders 1 through 3, exiting through the outboard cat.

Good to hear the P.O. is taking the hit. Price sounds about right tho. It's been a couple of years for me. Knock on wood. I'm on my fourth set of sensors as the original owner. Originals with the truck, replacement under recall, a set when I failed emissions, and the current set now on the truck when I threw a code a couple of years ago and the O2 sensors were the diagnosis.

Do you know whether that alone made a significant difference, or did you do a bunch of other things (plugs, wires, etc.) at the same time when you didn't pass? Also, were you throwing a code, or just knew they were old?

Just curious about data on the benefits of replacing old sensors.

Curtis,

I hadn't thrown a code. Went in for normal smog and failed - horribly. Took it to dealer that had done all the maintenance on the truck to that point (that's another story - related to the sensors unfortunately - I haven't been back to them since). Only item they replaced was the O2 sensors and it passed very easily at the dealer. Time I changed them, truck was throwing a code, which I don't remember, but a search on this topic will find it here on the board as Dan diagnosed and convinced me I could do the swap of the sensors myself. First of many things I've learned from this great board that has saved some $$ and provided a great sense of satisfaction as I'm a basic DIY'er on just about everything that's not car related!
