An aux tank is expensive, especially here in Norway where prices are two times US prices with freight and taxes. So I decided to find another tank that would fit. I ended up with a used standard tank from a Land Cruiser 70 that there are plenty of here. I am sure there are many others that would fit as well.
Adding a dual filler made this not a budget solution any longer, but it is a beauty. All hoses used are standard hoses from 80 and 70. Also a nice feature is that the tank level transmitters are the same in the two tanks, so I simply added a switch to the gauge input to select if I would see main or aux tank level. I also added a LED above the gauge that is lit when aux is selected.
Tank fixings are made of square tubes; one in rear between the frame members and two above for support. In front I used the existing cross-member. The tank hangs in its original straps.
Adding the tank meant that I also needed a rear bumper and tire carrier as well. I went for my own light-weight design. See
