Need what ever advice you can give me ..

My Bio. and formal introduction.

Like all you know i am new to the land cruiser cult

I got my first cruiser a 92' fj80 since about 2 year (i got it because i needed a rig for hunting/target range etc..) i was not aware of the L.C history until a frind from work (Brad H.) got me in to the TLCA and from there, here i am...

The funny thing i was going to get a Jeep cherokee but new that toyota 4 runner was better, but did not found one or the other

And the wife is using the fj80 as daily driver (been an outdoor family It is also fun the have 2 rigs) and been practical person i like more the space of the 55,60,80,fj

I got my fj80 from a frind that decided to sell it becuase had no more use, since he sold hes boat (got lucky for $4k it is 95% condition and with 130k miles) have done only service and minor maintnance repairs and for an 18 year old car, no complaints here

I got my fj60 85' car 1.3 year a go for $1,100 (it was stoped for 5 years in phoenix Arizona from the original owner, Zero rust and 175k miles no dents only needed TLC ...he stated ) decided to saved it because (loved the look of the fj60(rule!!!) and for the price it was good deal for a project vehicle (after about $5k it was running great), and been getting the bugs out as the appear

And have not done any "serius repair only gasket, seals lines bering, power steering leaks, etc...

Question:

We have been having problems lately with my semi-new OEM carburator, (it was runnin great for 1 year; after some gas tank and lines rust problems and durt we had the gas system clean and the carburator re-done)

Since then i have look in to several things, even got it rebuilt (2 times, and still i have problems in idle, and also roufgh start (I think it is small problems with air in take) and some time it runs like new (that is what drives me crazy:mad:)

Toyota Carburators are complicated by nature

I have been looking in the near medium future to the ma-a-free (K3236-7387)

Designed primarily for 1980-1987 2F engines retaining the stock rod type throttle linkage, and the original 2F oval air cleaner assembly. This kit adapts the 32/36 to the OEM carburetor manifold insulator using a WEBER 2 piece adapter.$379+shipping $18

Do some body have any recomendation advice etc... if they are better headache option.

I will appreciate what ever adice:meh:

I've used those carbs on many rigs. They can work well if set up right. However, there build quality is really bad! I've found myself yelling at these carbs on many occasion. They are made in spain with old castings and cheap matirials and poor craftsmanship.

Weber does have nice quality carbs, but there made in Italy. They cost a bunch more.

There's a good Weber place to deal with, in Gilroy California. I cant remember the name, but a search should find them.

Also, I've had better luck with the 40DGAS model, on Toyota trucks. Still made in spain, but tuned a little better.

Found there site. I've bought a few carbs from these folks. There service is good and at the time, they were the lowest priced!

Howdy! Non-oem carbs can be a pain if you have to pass smog. It sounds like you could get a "Mark built" unit for less than the Weber conversion. Problems sound more like smog controls and vacuum lines are the cause. John

You have two concerns here. First, smog laws. Second, without exception, a "bolt on" carb is never a bolt on affair. Unless you posess either A.) carb tuning experience or B.) the willingness and requisite patience to learn carb tuning, you won't be happy. I have used Webers on many different things, I think they are an excellent carb and are quite easy to set up if you know what you're doing. For the record, the 32/36 is too small, don't use it. If you do go Weber, go with the 38/38 and get somebody experienced with Webers to help you get it setup. Once set up properly, they run flawlessly with good power and mileage and they never flood. Man-A-Fre claims that they are plug and play but I assure you, they are not and every rig requires a slightly different tune.

Also the problem is that the RPM go down from 950 to 750 and latter to 550 and i start getting vibrations in idle and it has o be re-carb

any ideas?

I agree that you might be better off getting Mark A. or Jim C. to rebuild your OEM carb, if that is the problem. I also agree that you should make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks or a cracked intake manifold and that what emissions equipment you have is working properly.
