Mostly a lurker here, but was curious about your opinions on the 2008 styling - Lexus link: http://www.lexus.com/fcv/lx.html?s_ocid=30195 - then check out the photo gallery. I love the styling of our current 100s, but not sure about the front end of the 2008 (very Lexus GX-like, which I don't like) - beyond the front it looks pretty much the same to me except the rear is slightly different.

I have a 2000 LX with only 80K original owner miles, but I am starting to get the new truck itch and probably will only last another several years. I would like to stay with either the LX or LC, but just don't feel it with this new style - maybe I need to see it in person. I am assuming the LC will essentially be the same.

Maybe I will end up keeping my 2000 until one of us dies.

Opinions/Thoughts

I think it looks fantastic. At also should offer new technology and vehicle improvements like the 100 did over the 80.

Myself? I'm stuck. I want another new to newish Cruiser so I can rebuild my current 100 into a very aggressive rig (then dump my Lexus which I still don't like). My thought was a '06 or new '07. I could swap my bling from my 01 to my 06/07 and have a non-trail lookermobile. :D

The new '08 LX has things about it I salivate for. The engine and added features and size I'd luv. LUV! Plus, I'd be on the prowl for a buildup for it, ala my '01.

Looks though? LUV the '08!

OH! IF you plan on a trail vehicle for the '08.....you might stick with a 100. That '08 is longer and wider and right now I consider my 100 (my opinion) the absolute largest vehicle for the trail. The '08 pushes this past MY size mark.

You're on crack.

I am amazed by how s***ty the outside of that vehicle looks.

If I opt for one instead of a 06/07 I'll be glad to look like I'm on crack. Crack I hear makes one run faster. That's what this 08 will do compared to the 100. :D

I have never considered the current LX. I think the front lights and looks are gross. The 100 looks much better. Even worse in looks? The 80 series. Want my LX450?

I think it looks fine, but I want to see the ARB bullbar design.

It looks like a four runner from the rear.

I do not want your LX450, because I already have one, and you won't listen to anyone to get the driveline vibration to go away.

Vibes are gone. It's completed and works awesome! :)

It's just the 80 series. Crappy running engine (especially when you rev it), all kinds of typical troubles, non-stop sunroof noise (and other noises) and the fact it offers me almost nothing in added off-road capability over the 100. I just do not like it and always STILL want to take the 100. I'M SPOILED! :D

I love the 100, but I think the 80 is a great vehicle.

I totally disagree about the "crappy running engine."

Agreed. BOTH are superb, but different. I'm just as I said spoiled.

Ah, yes.....crappy running is not accurate.

*It's not refined
*It's loud and roars when revved
*It vibrates the entire vehicle at higher revs
*It's under powered

It does not run crappy. It runs well, is reliable except for a few quirks (overheating, HG's, and rear main leaks), and an overall OK power plant. It does take about 5 seconds however to note the HUGE difference when getting out of one series and into another. I can't stand the older technology and lack of refinement in the 80. That's me and some could care less because they're not as picky as me. I dumped my cloth 80 for the nicest 80 (LX) I could buy hoping I'd like it. It's helped, but it still falls far short of my 2001. As soon as a second 100 gets built the LX gets dumped.

I liked the cloth better. Lots more room. The engine is loud, and is definitely not refined. I don't have any vibration problems with either 80 at higher RPM's.

It is absolutely, without a doubt, underpowered. That, and the s***ty power windows are my only gripes about the 80.

I don't like the looks, but I sure like the sound of this:

The Lexus LX features:

Powertrain
Engine: 5.7-liter V8
Horsepower: 381
Torque: 401 lb-ft

Transmission
Six-Speed Automatic with Sequential Shift

leave it to the troll to turn a 08 thread into a 80 vs 100 flamebait

Styling of the 08 is a disappointment. The details are clunky and awkward. The lines are already dated looking and they did not handle it very well for a large suv imo.
As w/ Toyota, I'm sure it leaves a better impression in person but still... styling wise- mediocre.

For style, the euro and domestics have it all over the 08 but the interior is quite nice (as usual for Lexus). The problem is, in this market, the curb appeal matters quite a bit but I'm sure many will buy just because it is a Lexus and not a domestic 7 passenger brand.

It looks like a Highlander with some swelling or something, thumbs down. It will truly blend right in at the mall now.

Range Rover has the best look going these days. I wish they'd gone more in that direction.

I'm glad Toyota finally figured out there is no use for a cassette player. I wonder if they improved the shaky (while open) wing windows in back compared to the 100? They also chopped the tailgate which I think is a mistake.

Looks wise it's just another SUV now and will be an awesome DD. I still think it looks like an Envoy. Hopefully in person will impress.
