The Upstate crowd originally had their run to Gulches set for MLK Day on 19th...but have changed it to 17th due to some mis-communication.

We have our first Volunteer Day with US Forestry Service on the same day (17th Jan) so was wondering who might be able and want to take a DAY RUN up to Gulches on MLK Day...19 Jan 09?

I know I was thinking about going..as were others. This way we can do the volunteer work for the greater good of our club....and then still have some time wheeling with eachother before Christmas.

If interested please post it here so we can coordinate the run. If someone would like to take this project and ensure the GULCHES will be open that date...pricing for us to wheel there...and whether people want to eat on premises for lunch and then in cafe or diner afterwards before convoying home....that would be great.

If a volunteer to organize this impromptu event for Monday, 19th of Jan, which is MLK Day.....please post here as well. Thanks.:grinpimp:

I talked to Skip at the Gulches and he has decided to go ahead and open for MLK Day (Monday 19 Jan 09)... He would like a head count if we get a group together for the trip up there so he will know what to expect as to trail impact in case it is raining or still real wet from rains earlier previous week or weekend.

Please try and give me an idea of whether you are interested or not and I will confirm with you a week out from the event.

Still need a volunteer...LOL....to take this up.

I'll see if I can make it, sounds like fun.
I'll probably drive the Jeep up thereif so.

I may officially be off that day. Seems like the chicken plants and turkey plants always take MLK day off. I'll see likley be in the area anyway. Looks like near term will be Newberry so only about 30 miles away. May hitch a ride with you all and spend the day photo opting.

Coming anyway

I am lactose intolerant but may come anyway, never been to Gulches. I will just drink coke. LOL

I may be able to go. Just depends if my Cruiser will be ready. Where is Gulches?

2-3 hours northwest of here....towards Spartanburg. They have a website...will be my first time going as well.

Hope you can make it.....the more the merrier.

Also hope you guys can make our first annual volunteer day with US FOrestry Service in Francis Marian on 17th....

We can figure out a meeting location for the convoy up...and a time for those going direct to Gulches. Ought to be fun....

anybody else interested or pretty sure that they will make it?

If we have a decent sized group the owner (Skip) may give us a reduced rate... He asked me to give him a final tally the week before...so please post up if you will make it. hope to see you all there.

Our run to Gulches is still set for 19 Jan 09 on MLK Day. Please dont confuse this run with the one being done by rest of Upstate Cruisers on Saturday, 17 Jan...which is our first Work Day with US Forestry Service. If at all possible...please post in this thread whether you are going YES or NO and if you are bringing a guest. I need to give Skip a head count the week prior. They are normally only open THURSDAY-SUNDAY so this is an exception he is doing.

So far it looks like:

1. Brock, +1
2. Dbenke yes
3. ProInv
4. Brick Tamlin
5. BBQ Boy
6. DOC
7. OCD Beetle
8. My father/brother in his (not heard final so not counting on him making it)
9. Brick Tamlin

The Gulches 6850 Indian Mound Rd, Laurens County, SC 29384 - Google Maps

I am thinking that if we can all meet at THE GULCHES no later than 9:30am.....that would put us on trails by 10am hopefully and give us a good 4-6 hours of wheeling before dark. I am going to try and be there earlier than 9:30am to look at trail maps and such. I will have my cell but not sure if there is coverage there....but PM me if you want it.

I plan on leaving Charleston around 6am...says it is about 3 hours up there by Google Maps for THE GULCHES

If the Charleston and Beaufort crowd want to meet at the Rest Stop just north of town off I-26 that is cool by me....

If that is too early....and everyone would want to just meet by 11 or 12 and run it for 3-4 hours and then leave that is fine too...I am good with what is the group consensus.

Hope a lot of you can be there.....

Cool....maybe Maglight will let you follow him up if you are not familiar with area.

Any other new participants or need to remove anyone from current list?

I will be contacting Gulches on Thu or Fri at latest to make sure we are good for Monday as he is usually closed on Mondays. If anyone might rather go up Sunday evening and get Motel room then let me know that as well....I just want to go. :D

Apologize for the long time between responses. I drive an 07 FJ with a 3" Skyjacker suspension lift, 33 SSR, and some Hella fog lights. Work in progress but hard to find time and money with a wife and 2 kids. Cant wait to get out heard nothing but good things about the guys from Maglight. Im going to be at Gulches by about 0930-0945 and if there are people that want to convoy I would gladly do that but if not I want to get as much trail time as possible
