I think you're right. They could be home made, but not made by whoever installed them on that 4runner. The welds on the rock sliders look pretty good and really consistent, the welds on the frame tubes are terrible, I ground them all out and re-welded them.

Found some cheap rock sliders at my local Pick-n-pull for $40 each. They were installed upside down on a 4runner. They could be a couple of inches longer, but honestly fit pretty well. I wonder if they are trail gear.

Nice trooper, I had one for years and loved it. They are definitely cool rigs. Just no aftermarket support. Mine needed felt like it needed a re-gear with 33's, no gears available though.

If you swap to the old radiator cap, can you still squeeze coolant into the overflow?

In my experience you shouldn't be able to push coolant into the overflow with hand pressure. Did you replace the radiator cap or re-use the old? As long as you don't notice any coolant loss when driving I think you may have dodged a bullet.

I ended up getting some procomp front springs for $50 a piece from amazon and couldn't turn down that price. I also went with second gen 4runner rear shocks up front. you have to swap out the bottom bushing, but the length is great. I just went with a 2" block in the rear for now.

The 33's I had were starting to split in between the tread so I figured I got my use out of my $200 set of tires. I found a set of fj60/SR5 steel wheels and mounted my 33/10.50/15 tires that were on my trooper. I like the look, not sure if I like it more than the aluminum wheels though. Sure...
