Thanks all! The quintessence seems to be they are not interchangeable, at least not without major changes in the engine control module. I'll start with ordering a refabricated transmission from South Africa.

@inkpot Yes, the American version got the newer smoother? gearbox from the start, afaik. I seem to have a rare specimen, or may just one of the very first UZJ100s.
