I may be wrong here, but that looks to me like a 4 speed fork, throwout bearing, and slave rod. If you are trying to adjust to the 3 speed specs, it may present some issues. Additionally, are you sure the line is bled so there is no air causing a short stroke?

Same material as an aircraft, might as well follow those procedures since it stands the test of time. Use alumiprep (Or go to your local auto store and buy ‘aluminum brightener’) and a maroon 3m scuff pad. Rinse well with water. Apply alodine (the gold is easier to see which areas you’ve done)...

Gotta agree. You're looking for a solution to problem that doesn't exist. Put in a stock one and move on. The thermostat is going to regulate the temp regardless. (assuming the rest of the cooling circuit is in good order)

PO rebuilt the engine (believe 71 model F engine) but the new cam only had oil holes to the rear of the distributor drive gear. The block is only machined in front of the drive gear for the copper feeder line to the valvetrain. Most of the cams I see advertised for F engines only show the rear...
