Theorycrafting on a FZJ80, RTT weight, height, damping, and COG

I ended up finding some, hopefully shipping this week. Looks like they'll sit the tent ~30-35mm lower than the AluCab mounts will. It'll also let me get four bars under the tent and the spacer (which I didn't realize was a thing) will let me get one further aft. The AluCab mounts seem more...

Strong chemical odor from driver wheel well

I considered it might be AC related, but the odor was strongly from the driver side and the AC worked fine. I didn't see any evidence of dye or AC work done recently. It's tough because it didn't replicate. I drove the car around a lot since noticing it and didn't see it again. I'll keep an...

Strong chemical odor from driver wheel well

Ya, I’m leaning towards fuel also. I checked for leaks around the rubber lines and filter, nothing there I’m assuming it’s the evap system? It looks like a non-oem canister with three prongs up top was installed. The air line runs down to the frame, tank to tank, and purge to the valving. From...

Strong chemical odor from driver wheel well

We are out camping in our LX450, after about 3 hours on the highway, we stopped and immediately noticed a fairly strong chemical smell from the front driver side of the car. It doesn’t smell like burning, more like paint or acetone. We also had some very minor stumbling coming from a stop but...

Theorycrafting on a FZJ80, RTT weight, height, damping, and COG

Mind sharing how you have it mounted? The 3R is sweet. I’m envious of the updated profile, heater port, and solar plug up top. I couldn’t justify the cost to upgrade yet. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them updated with a new generation soon. Totally just a theory, but it seems like the...

Please tell me otherwise….think I just blew my head gasket

I plan on doing this in a few months, will be curious to hear how it goes. A PO did a lot of the "while you are there" stuff but I'm trying to inventory what else I need to do while the plenum is out.

Theorycrafting on a FZJ80, RTT weight, height, damping, and COG

Ya that'd be great, I'd be happy to buy those off of you if you do. On the spacer, I was curious about this part also. I originally had the front, center, and rear bars (I have 3 currently) spaced out evenly across the roof/gutters, but when I mounted the tent, there was a gap and all the...

Theorycrafting on a FZJ80, RTT weight, height, damping, and COG

My ceiling is too low unfortunately, but I did order one of the Rollnjack RTT lifts when they show back up in stock next month. I like the tent a lot. I know there are lighter, easier tents to mount, but it's comfortable and well insulated. I don't know how much wheeling we'll do, but I can...

Theorycrafting on a FZJ80, RTT weight, height, damping, and COG

Thanks, I debated on going the rack route, but I already have a DeltaVS rack for when I remove the tent and I didn't want to spend the money on yet another rack. That said I do like the lower profile. The issue is the AluCab gen3 tents are really wide. The base rails for bolting it down are...

Theorycrafting on a FZJ80, RTT weight, height, damping, and COG

Thanks. Did you go with the 102 over the 101 for any particular reason? Just curious because FR lists the 101 as 10mm shorter and it’s what comes with the standard load bars. Where did you buy them from?

Theorycrafting on a FZJ80, RTT weight, height, damping, and COG

I spoke to Tiny Rig Co earlier and they said I could use the Front Runner brackets with the AluCab load bars. I’m just waiting to hear that they can source just the legs and I’m gonna do that, I like the profile a lot better with it being a little lower. Thanks for the info and love the rig!

Theorycrafting on a FZJ80, RTT weight, height, damping, and COG

Thanks for the info! I ended up getting it mounted up today. I used the AluCab gutter feet and 1450 load bars. Getting the load bars situated such that the weight was evenly distributed was tricky, having them at both ends of the truck and center had gaps below the tent and all the weight...

Theorycrafting on a FZJ80, RTT weight, height, damping, and COG

No, not excessive. I live in the NC mountains so there is some, but it's not horrible. Thanks for the info. Do you mind sharing your suspension setup and how tall it sits? Part of the challenge is that the LT setup I have now limits spring options. I'm not sure if there are any linear rate...

Theorycrafting on a FZJ80, RTT weight, height, damping, and COG

Hi folks. I know this subject came up before in context of someone doing the Rubicon. I read that thread, but it was a long time ago and stuff has changed, so I figured I'd pose the question here a bit. I have a fairly heavy 80, front has an ARB bar w/ M12S winch, single battery (so it's...

Compiled 80 series suspension component spec thread... shocks, coils & more.

Thanks, do you know if this would just remove the spacer or add height on top of what I have now + the spacer? Looking to figure out if this supports more weight and adds lift or just gets me back level w/o spacers. Thanks for the help
