Haha! you're joking... I ended up getting the pump rebuilt in the end, no improvement, fortunately only a couple of the internal parts were worn so it wasn't too expensive. Since then I've noticed it only idles rough within a very specific range 800-900rpm and clears up above and below that...

I've been chasing this for a couple of months so I can only imagine your frustration! I've tried all the usual suspects, power is fine, fuel tank and pickup is clean as a whistle, I ran clear hose and there were no bubbles in the line, fuel filler cap breather is clear, cracking injectors...

Thanks David, good to hear its not a compression issue. Since posting I've had my injectors rebuilt, valve clearances done and removed ACSD but with no luck. I'm also starting to suspect its the pump, keen to hear how it goes

Sorry to revive and old thread... but did you ever find out what this was? I have the exact same symptoms in my HDJ80, rough idle and gets worse when hot, a short burst of the throttle will help for a couple of seconds but then it gets rough again. It's driving me nuts!
