1968 FJ40 Ignition Coil, Internal Resistor?

Thank you. I measured the coil, 3,1 ohms, and the wire to it from the ignition switch is not a resistive wire. So, I ordered an internal resistance coil.

1968 FJ40 Ignition Coil, Internal Resistor?

Wiring diagrams I've found are a bit confusing, some show a resistor, some don't. The only feed to the coil is one wire from the ignition switch, no duplicate wire from the starter which would have bypassed the resistor. The previous owner could have changed the wiring. I am going to trace...

1968 FJ40 Ignition Coil, Internal Resistor?

Does the original coil, Nippondenso 90919-02015, have an internal resistor? I do not see a ballast resistor in the engine compartment? Is there an equivalent replacement? Assuming the previous owner just removed the ballast, can I replace the coil with one that has internal resistor?

    Help IDing Muffler

Have mufflers with CAD 76804D, or could be 7680AD stamped on them. They really had a nice sound, but are starting to rot out. Cannot get any matches on the interweb, does anyone has any clue what the mfgr. may be, or crossreference? Don't want to get something that would be loud.

    Speedometer Driven Gear P/N

Here is what I posted on Jun 10, 2023: I received the 33403-69135 gear. It is identical to the original 17 tooth gear, except the gear OD and tooth root is 0.090 inch larger in diameter. I reduced the OD and cut the tooth root deeper. I reshaped the tooth profile to match the original gear. So...

    1968 FJ40 fuel Gauge Sender

Thanks, Had not seen that in a fuel sender before this one.

    1968 FJ40 fuel Gauge Sender

Engineer8000, I figured it wasn't a variable resistor as it looks different than another sender I have seen, and couldn't measure resistance. Exactly what is the mechanism? Don't believe it is variable capacitance as the supply is DC, not AC.

    1968 FJ40 fuel Gauge Sender

45Dougal, good catch. When you stated bending the arm, I thought that could be why the resistance went open circuit with the arm full down, and gauge dropped below E, overtraveling the sensor. It was tricky to bend the arm close to the pivot so I did not need to modify the limit travel...

    1968 FJ40 fuel Gauge Sender

With a new fuel sender, the fuel gauge only goes to about 3/4 to 7/8 full when I articulate the float full up. The gauge follows properly when moving the float arm part way. When I set it at full down, the gauge indicates past empty. I measured the unit resistance with two DMM's, and the...

    1968 FJ40 Speedodometer

A friend needs the push button release latch for the rear lift glass. Says he cannot locate any from LC part suppliers. Anyone know where to source one? Thanks

    Speedometer Driven Gear P/N

I do not know what the previous owner did regarding tires or diff. ratios. When I sourced tires, I went with the same revs./mile as original, at least I thought so. I know with GM vehicles, there are numerous driven gears for a given drive gear, not familiar with Toyota. The current gear is...

    Speedometer Driven Gear P/N

Thanks JVZii, snow gone and removed from storage and odo works with the gear he supplied, 1968 FJ40, three speed manual. But, speedo and odo indications are 10% high. I would like to change to a 19 tooth driven gear. Searching this forum, I believe the P/N is 33403-69135. Can anyone verify if...
