Case closed. I moved the plug wires on the distributor around in the circle one step COUNTERCLOCKWISE. Then turned the distributor around CLOCKWISE to get the timing within the zone where I want it and can get the advance I want. I include a picture of the new orientation relative to the old...
I apologize for my poor description of the problem. I have included a picture, which I should have done the first time. The dissy cannot rotate further COUNTERclockwise as you can see in the picture. It is already hitting the dipstick. I think all of the wires need to be indexed one spot...
Thanks 1911 for clarifying the CAM timing. But, I can't turn the body of my dissy counterclockwise any more, because the vacuum advance that hangs off the right side of the dissy is fully up to the dipstick that comes up out of the block on the F engine. I could leave the BODY of the dissy in...
Sorry. It's not hitting the oil filter, its the dipstick coming up out of the block.
I am wondering if my timing gear and crankshaft gear were not properly mated, because I am having to twist a long way counterclockwise to get the timing where I like it.
If I index the plug wires, which...
I think my distributor is set into the camshaft one tick wrong as I can ALMOST get my timing set right but not quite. When my timing gets to where I want it to be the distributor hits the oil filler and won't advance any more. So, I need to pull the dissy out of the cam hole and reinsert it...
The '68 might have had grey seat covers. I think SOR makes a very good replacement set with molded foams for this year, as do others. The '68 also MIGHT have had seat covers in an more orange color, which are almost impossible to find. Shane AKA AATLAS1X made some beautiful covers in the...
Never seen manual 4WD shift with 4WD indicator. The shift mechanisms are different and there is not a switch on the shifter to detect 4WD.
Interesting to know that 12/71 has bench seats and floor shift. I thought that transition from column shift to floor shift happened at the same time as...
The '68 was a transitional year. I need to know what "flavor" of '68 you have. Mine is one of the last to have the small-window 1 BBL carb, which was set-up to use the throttle. Most of the later carbs did not necessarily have provisions for the throttle -- and throttle actuation switched...

OK. I mislead you then. If 12/71 is factory three-speed floor shift and factory 4wd floor shift, you would not have the light. What type of seats do you have? Buckets? The light hole is probably for the emergency brake light switch and/or master cylinder brake light switch. Check...
One week later and the problem has dissapeared (same day the MC rebuild kit arrived). I can hold the clutch pedal down for 5+ minutes with no change in position of slave cylinder. The clutch hydrauliic system self-bled a bubble I guess. Add kit to spares ....
I assume very solid means no rust. If that's what it means, I'll take it for $75. Where are you in Alabama. I am in Georgia but have a lot of people over your way.
