On the weekend I pulled the seal off and ordered a new one. The rust in the rear was very hard to get at, getting a wirewheel in was tricky so i ended up getting at it with a wirebrush and some sand paper. I have treated the section with some rust converter, i cannot see any holes in the steel...

Nope scratch that after pulling the seal fully off I have found some rust behind it. The seam that the seal clips to is rusting. Not sure how bad it is just yet but it's in a seriously bugger of a spot to rub back to clean up. Has anyone else has to address rust in this area? It's got me beat...

I agree, I thought it might have been torn but it looks to be pretty good. The only tear in it is a tear I put in it pulling it front the body. It is very muddy and wet around the back of the rubber that clips over the steel. This is the main thing that makes me think the water is going around...

Thanks mate. The new seal came with the butyl inside the channel? I am wondering if the channel has just lost its bite on mine and needs replacing or if I can repair it somehow.
