Yep, now it time to reassemble. First working on timing so I can find TDC (top dead center for the noobs) on cyl 1. Then after the head is on I’ll validate/adjust rockers
Thanks guys!! When I pulled the head the gasket was upside down blocking the oil feed teardrop around the 4th cylinder. It’s wild how they have the oil go up the head bolt to the tiny inlet hole that connects to the rocker assembly to go up the rest of the way!! No wonder she was running hot...
Hey all, before I do something stupid…. Famous last words…. My 78 FJ40 with the 2F motor has been rocking since I got it and has had low oil pressure (validated by physical gauge), so I replaced the oil pump/gaskey, oil pan gasket and got no increase. Spinning the distributor got me no oil up...
Today I learned that the speedo cable quality really matters. I got an aftermarket one from SOR that bounced when I installed it, then snapped recently. I got a new one from Cruiser Parts LLC. You could feel the superiority of the OEM cable. Its housing was thicker, it screwed on to the...
I’ve had this beauty about 6 months now, boy have I done some work already untangling this mess! My FJ was a US spec exported to Columbia in the 80s and recently brought home. Man did the do some creative stuff down there!!
LOL - Its just sitting there like an appendix (that now burst), plugs are on the way to take the silly thing out! Now that it made me mad I’m going to hunt and destroy anything else stupidly hacked!
Oh ya, I forgot! If your gas gauge is bad it’ll look like it’s working, and so will the oil pressure - but when the car warms up and the temp gauge starts to climb it’ll short your fuse!
That if you have a hole in your air rail the exhaust will vaporize the gasoline in your fuel line and make the LC nearly impossible to start or idle - like almost as bad as a bad coil or dizzy!
