that's precisely what I am going to try, because while the tubes ARE 150 on ebay, the cables are 400 and up. Going to try to recreate the low friction sleeve.

Well, I reckon I will probably just order cables then. There's white lithium grease in the place the motor connects to the cables, and in there the cable was bare, so I figured it was hardened grease. I saw some of the prices quoted for cables here, but they're only 150 or so on ebay...

The grease looks black after you heat it, but using a drill and a razor knife seems to take the old hardened grease off pretty effectively.

For what it's worth, I got my cables unstuck. I used a propane torch and heated the copper pipe. It melted the grease and I pushed and pulled as I heated it and it started moving. Once it started moving good I pulled it the rest of the way out. I ended up on this thread because I was looking...
